Lagonda being revived in Geneva 2009

Now this is exciting. Aston Martin is planning to revive the Lagonda brand. Although this was announced in September 2008, but its been confirmed now. Sorry no pics at the moment!

The Lagonda nameplate stretches back all the way to 1906, when it was first introduced in Middlesex by an American named Wilbur Gunn. The automaker continued offering luxurious automobiles until it was taken over in 1947 by fellow British automaker Aston Martin.

The British automaker produced luxury cars independently until 1947 when it was bought by Aston Martin. Although Aston used the Lagonda name as a model designation from 1976 to 1989 for a quirky angular four-door, with a handful of coachbuilt specials and concept cars in between, the last model Lagonda produced was the 1961-65 Rapide, a nameplate which Aston has also revived with its upcoming four-door coupe model. While the production Rapide is expected to continue as an Aston Martin, the company is planning a unique concept car to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this year that will show the way forward for the rejuvenated marque.

Sources suggest a new competitor aimed at Bentley and Rolls-Royce, although the Lagonda will be more focused on performance than long distance cruising. No telling what that will mean for Aston's partnership with Mercedes-Benz, which has its own failing Maybach brand competing in the segment as well. However the resuscitation of Lagonda is bound to form a vital component of Aston Martin's ambitious growth plan.

Tipped to hit the road sometime in 2012, full details will be revealed on the second Geneva Motor Show press day at 8.00am on March 4th 2009.

Source:Car News and reviews, videos, wallpapers, pictures, free games and more. - Top Speed

Back in August when Aston Martin and Mercedes announced a technology sharing partnership, the speculation the benefactor would be Aston’s sports cars. It seems this help will also trickle to thefuture Lagonda sedan.AutoCar reports that the future large luxury car will share the W222 platform with future S-Class.
The new Lagonda will be engineered to support advanced new hybrid drive systems and new pre-scan suspension technology. The platform has been described as the German car maker’s most advanced system to date.
Lagonda’s first concept will be revealed in 2009 and the first production model will follow in 2012.

Do I see a mix of different designs on the sedan? The grill has a Buick-Bentley look.Headlights seem straight off from the '09 Maxima. Wheels look good, though.
Ah! Lets just wait to see how the final design turns out.

Interiors look good, except that rear seats seem a bit cramped.

Only one word for the read end of the car: Horrific.

On second thoughts, I might have more words: Raised back-end of a Bentley/Maybach mutation.

Head lights are cashing in on the LED craze. Tail lights are....interesting?

Doesn't seem one bit like an Aston Martin.. The front grill looks more like a 300c.As for the rear portion, the less said the better.
This one reminds me of the Ford Volt.

Ouch! Now that seems like blasphemy to the Lagonda brand! I'll wait for Awini's reaction to this one

The last Lagonda was outrageous. This one is too. The old car however, was lovable. This one dosen't do much to my senses. Looks like a mix of many cars.
