World's first usable, road-legal flying car

Parajet, has now placed its long-awaited SkyCar up for pre-order. The vehicle is completely street legal and can accelerate to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds, thus making it the world's first "usable, road-legal flying car." It'll Cost £10,000 ($16,381) now and the remaining £50,000 ($81,905) total around 47 lacs on delivery when it releases in Late 2010.

To me it just looks like a dune buggy with a hang-glider attached.

Here's some more info:

FLIGHT MODE:

The Parajet SkyCar in “fly mode” is suspended by the latest ram-air wing and capable of take-off from a field or airstrip in less than 200 metres. It will be easier and safer to fly than any other aircraft, as it has no pitch control and therefore impossible to stall or dive. Should the engine fail, the pilot would simply glide down into the nearest field or strip of sandy desert. In the unlikely event of catastrophic wing failure, car connection system failure or mid-air collision, an emergency ballistic reserve parachute can be deployed.

CAR MODE:
With minimum weight, dynamic handling and peak performance, the Parajet Skycar is the ideal candidate for demanding terrain or sand dune adventures, but it’s not just an all-out off-roader. Oriented towards drivers who seek a purist’s driving experience, the Skycar is a fully road legal vehicle and therefore bridges the gap between a trip to the local supermarket and a thrilling, unforgettable driving adventure. Thanks to the lightweight chassis and 140bhp engine, the Skycar accelerates to 62mph in just 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 140mph.

The idea has been explored many times and i remember as a kid watching Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) take off to skies in a car-plane in THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN.

Parajet - We all need to do this

Hi everyone,

I found this interesting video of a parajet ( part off road vehicle, part parachute flyer jet)
It is the third prototype and a bliss to drive as reported by the video.

Please find the video here

I wish something as simple as this comes up for a production variant soon.
