Eagle E-Type Speedster..lovely!

Source:Topspeed.

Classic sports cars can be tremendous fun to drive, but hell to own. To begin with storage, insurance and maintenance could bankrupt the average person and the old cars don’t drive as well as a modern day vehicle. The engines take a while to come up to operating temperature, the old leaf spring based suspension takes a beating every time you venture onto a less than perfect streets. The car’s just aren’t as reliable as a 21st century automobile, one Jaguar E-Type has statd that he has to leave his car idling in the parking lot when he goes in to get his morning coffee, if he shuts it off, because of the fumes in the carburetors there’s no telling as to when it may start back up again.Well not every classic English sports car experience has to be that troublesome. The U.K. based craftsman at Eagle have created this modern day feline based on a 1966 Jaguar E-type. The car is the proof that classic cars can be cool, fast and worry free when the new E-Type made its world debut at the Salon Privé prestige motor show in London.

The Eagle E-Type features an aluminum bodyshell, stiffer suspension, upgraded brakes and modern low profile radial tires. Under the hood the car features a 4.7 Liter straight six engine that delivers 300 HP and 340 lb-ft of torque, a 50% power increase over the standard E-type engine from the 1960’s. Weighing in at only 1100 kg, the modern day E-Type will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds and can hit a top speed of 175 MPH.

Cars don't get more timeless than the E-Type. Amazing car. We had a thread about most desirable roadsters from the 60s. I think this should top the list.

'Eagle' Celebrates The 50th Year Anniversary Of Jag's E-Type In Style!

Few cars can be termed more beautiful than this one, and that would include the original E-type.

But Eagle has done a remarkable job with this project. So remarkable, that it would render most classic sports-car enthusiasts, weak-kneed, the moment they get a glimpse of this wonderful Eagle Speedster.

Details and source below:

Quote:
As the Jaguar E-Type celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2011, Eagle – the British car restoration specialist that almost exclusively dedicates it efforts on the Jaguar E-Type has thought of the perfect way to celebrate the occasion with the debut of the one of a kind Eagle Speedster. A roadster model, the Eagle Speedster will be a perfect admix of the beauty of the classic E-Type accompanied by the company’s technical craftsmanship and expertise. U.S. collector Rick Velaj, who was looking for something “a bit special”, has commissioned the car. When Eagle designer Paul Brace drew the sketch, Velaj was impressed and the rest was a piece of cake. It would drive any sports car fan crazy if they are told that everything on the E-Type Speedster is customized. Exactly like the 1960′s Jaguar E-Type, every detail is designed and custom made, from the unique shape of the all-aluminum body, adapted from an original body by RS Panels, right through to the windshield glass.
Beneath the impressive sculpted body lurks an Eagle custom made 4.7 liter straight six engine mated to a five speed gearbox. The six cylinder engine is rated at 340 lb-ft or 460 Nm which should be enough to make the Speedster to have on offer sports car like performance, more so since the Speedster weighs less than 1,100 kilograms (2,425 lbs). The issue of handling has also been handled well by the Eagle technicians as they fitted an optimized sports suspension and made the wheel track wider
The Speedster has also been rendered a relatively low profile due to its low floor, while the driver’s seating position is also kept low for a sportier feel. The car’s elegant lines are connected with the cockpit through a “waterfall” console that descends between the two seats and is continued with the center tunnel. The dashboard is exactly as it has been on the E-Type, which will have an aluminum fascia, instrument panel with a classic touch to it along with awesome leather work. The customized aluminum wheels are fitted with three-eared wheel spinners.
The price for this incredible car has not yet been described.

Oops!

How did this thread not show up when I searched for similar threads before posting this one?

Anyhoo, it certainly is timeless. Wonderful piece of kit, this. Perfect for those who want the real-deal but can't find an example that they'd settle for. Long live the E-Type!

Re: Eagle E-Type Speedster and now the Eagle Lightweight GT.

another variant of E Type, the lightweight E Type provides the inspiration to another creation from Eagle.

Presenting the Eagle Lightweight GT. The workmanship is magnificent. Not just the interior, the details under the hood. The exhaust manifold. The right amount of noise. My god its lovely.

Check out this video by Carfection.

PS: Posted in the same thread as Eagle Speedster. Was not sure if we had another thread for the low drag GT. Let me share the Carfection video of Eagle Speedster here as well.

Re: Eagle E-Type Speedster..lovely!

These Eagle E-types are beautifully made. Jeremy Clarksson is a huge fan of them and various Eagle E-types have featured in Topgear, but also in “meet the Neighbours” where he drives all over Europe in an Eagle.

In this video he compares the original E-type to the Eagle E-type

Although I do like the E-type, I am not sure I would want one. I prefer some other classics. These Eagle version are much to be admired, but if I had to choose between the original and the replica (because that is what it is) I would always go for the original.

Here is the thing; I don’t understand why you want to make a classic car look and feel like a modern one. Part of the charm of a classic car is that it is so different from any modern car. In just about any aspect. Yes, compared to a modern car, almost any classic car is less fast, less comfortable, less nimble, steers heavier, worse braking etc etc. The list goes on, but again that is the essence of owning a classic car. You step in a Time Machine and go back 40-50 years.

So an incredible achievement by Eagle, no doubt. But nothing to do with the original as far as I’m concerned.

Of course, if you own one, you will be the laughing stock of every classic Jaguar owner. They will feel and act vastly superior to you. They will point out to you: You have paid the price of what would be a concour state E-type several times over and still ended up with a replica.

And you can never ever join a Jaguar club. (I know they make exceptions for some period replicate Jaguars, but not the Eagle versions as far as I know)

But its good we have companies such as Eagle, no mistake!
