Lotus is working at top speed to design and develop a secret new £75,000 supercar to replace the 25-year-old Esprit in two years' time. Depicted below is an official Lotus drawing and, above, enhanced by computer design, the new Esprit – a mid-engine two-door coupé with compact styling and dimensions, sophisticated aerodynamics, ultra-agile handling and a top speed close to 200mph – is being engineered to suit all the major car markets of the world. Lotus aims to offer markedly better performance and value for money than established opponents like the Porsche 911, Ferrari 360 and Lamborghini Gallardo.

In my opinion, the old Esprit had a shape which would never go out of style. The new one's not bad but I don't think it will endure like the old one. With Lotus, I can expect the engine and handling to be really good. What about the gearbox?

arent esprit's quite rare in India?? I've only seen 1 Esprit in Bombay. Have read in Indian Auto that Jackie Shroff has the only turbo charged Esprit[red] in India.

I have seen one more. Its a white esprit - homed somewhere around Walkeshwar.

P.S. One of my marketing professors, Mr. Pierre Berthon, in Mba school at Bentley College - Boston worked with Lotus for 10+ years and was on the design team of the Lotus Espirit. He was also part of the team that designed the engine for the famed Corvette ZR-1. Many people dont know that the ZR-1 had a Lotus designed engine in it.

Needless to say, most of the class projects and case studies revolved around the automotive world - From BMW to Land Rover...

its kinda GALLARDOISH. and the front bumper ..very similar to the Elise.. it aint bad but v need some time to get used to it

The car looks good .. actually looks just like the other cars in its breed. What we need to look at is the tech specs offered.. But I's still take the old Esprit

The concept sketch in that link u provided looks so much better than the pics of the prototype that u posted in the first post. Look at the sketch.....its clearly an esprit...and more modern and possibly just as beautiful...sad the prototype didnt turn out that way!

Lots of Lambo'ism shown!! The front lights, the overall design. It looks almost the exact replica of the Galladro!
But, nice exhausts!!

its a rip offf....oh my god..this is baaadd...i mean lotus being so prominent why have they ripped off someone's design soo blatantly...

anyhow..I still like it..but Gallardo...looks much much better..
