well it was one of the mainstream manufacturers but the company closed down.

Hmm, seems like an interesting strategy. Take a generic-looking American model by a supposedly forgotten manufacturer from what appears to be the mid-20's, sit back and enjoy the amusingly clueless answers. Well, having gone through over a hundred defunct companies, I must say that one thing I've learned from the rather dreary search experience is that individuality seemed to be out of fashion amongst US automobile manufacturers of that era. Seriously, I could stare at a relative of the pictured vehicle and still wouldn't be able to discern the relation.

Oddly enough, I found it by searching for a 1924 Marmon, and the Remarkable Cars page hosting your clue picture popped up. The thing is, I had looked through a few Jewett models of that era before but nothing seemed relevant enough to warrant any consideration. Go figure. On top of that I remember thinking that 'Jewett' was a somewhat amusing name and that I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out that you chose the car for that reason. I never pursued that direction any further though. To be honest, I almost expected it to be a 1924 Flint.

Just the same, it was a rather boring car to be looking for, I must say.

True. I did save a lot of related pictures onto my HD in the process. For a 'rainy day', you know. I just hope that the rainy day never comes. :D

The trouble with that particular car (and, indeed, that particular era) is that a lot of models look dishearteningly similar to one another. They seem to share a variety of common elements such as grille shape, headlights, wheels and the overall, uhm, primitive geometry. I think you should give us something slightly more distinctive-looking next time. :)
