2011 Ford F-Series Super Duty

Ford's F-Series has been the best-selling range in its segment for the 32 years running. No wonder then Ford went all out for the 2011 model year. The big F-Series Super Duty now features a new 6.7-litre PowerStroke turbocharged diesel V8 with extra power and torque. It's said to meet the stringent 2010 US emissions requirements.

"Developing the new 6.7-litre Power Stroke V-8 turbocharged diesel engine was an awesome endeavour," said Adam Gryglak, lead 6.7-litre diesel engineering manager. "After all the engineering and testing, we're confident this engine will ensure the new Super Duty continues its leadership in capability, reliability and productivity."

A second V8 is on the offering but is powered by petrol/ gasoline. E85 can also be used to fill up on this one. Ford claims class-leading economy on the engine but no figures have been released. An all-new TorqShift 6-speed automatic transmission which can help place low-down torque on the ground quite early is installed. It also has a manual-shift function.

As much as this is a heavy duty truck, everyday comfort cannot be compromised. To take care of that Ford insisted on such things as Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, tyre pressure monitors and optional airbags. There's also a 4.2-inch LCD screen that shows certain information to the driver.

Looks much better now than the 2009 version. This F-450 is huge. Ive got it as a wallpaper. Now only if they come out with the Harley davidson version. I guess that'll take time. Like the new grill and lights. Other than that looks remain largely unchanged.

Pickups are really a declining market now in the US. Certain fundamental changes have happened over 2007-2009, which have all but killed off entire segments of pickup customers, e.g. suburban "cowboys" who didn't actually need the vehicle. Have a look at this:

Quote:
Ford, for example, sold 939,000 of its industry-leading F-Series pickup in 2004. This year, through August, the company had sold just 261,000.
“We are pretty sure at Ford that we will never see pickups accounting for 15 percent of the total market again,” said Mr. Pipas. “What we’re looking at now is mostly the core buyer who needs this type of vehicle for work purposes.”

This won't be a leisure vehicle, its got to be a work related one, as mentioned in the quote (Shiraz's post).
The likes of the Titan or the F150 seem more like the general use trucks.

looks like they designed the grille first and just came up with the rest later. maybe thats whats giving it the humungous look. but is US still asking for trucks?

Depends on which part of the US we'r looking at. Texas/Oklahoma/Arkansas/ New Mexico are primary the states where truck sales are the most. New models seem to be going slow, while resale of used trucks is high. People don't want to spend more than $8-10K for a 3-4 year old truck,so the demand for used trucks is fairly high.
