Top 10 300HP cars under $10K (used ofcourse!)

Here's an interesting article I just came across -

Winding Road | List: Top Ten 300 Horsepower Cars for Under $10,000

A better bet than hunting for those hard to maintain classics I think.

Wish this is in India - I would have gotten the Corvette with eyes closed.

No, wait the GS400.

Nah, the XJR is the right one

Oops! The 300ZX

Its gotta be the Camaro!

...

...

What the heck, I'd wanna get all of 'em!

The E36 BMW M3 should have made it to this list without a doubt! I'm surprised as to why it didn't! It's a fantastic sports car that looks great! And if the 850i could have made it to the list with a price tag in the late $9000, I'm sure the E36 M3 would've been a hot favourite!

Sure, the E36 makes only 286 horsepower but I think that's good enough! And it's rear-wheel drive! It would be amazing!

The presence of the Lexus GS400 and the Jaguar XJR isn't right me thinks! If I had to make a list, I'd include the E36 M3, an R32/R33 (That roughly makes 300) Nissan Skyline GT-R, A Mercedes Benz W202 C36/C43 AMG (3.6 Straight-6, 24V 280hp/4.2 V8, 24V 305 hp) or even a 4th generation Ford Mustang GT V8 (which falls slightly short of the 300 hp mark though) instead of the Lexus, Jag or even the Ford SVT Lightning!

@Suhaas - I guess whoever compiled this list was looking at 300BHP AND $10k as the key criteria. We have our own list of cars - and in mine the Mustang tops!

Ph03n!x,

I was aware of the 300 horsepower + $10k criteria my friend! That's precisely why my list consists of cars that make 300 horses and fall in the list of cars that are available for under $10k in the used car market.

The E36 M3 makes just about 300 and would cost $10k for sure where as the C36/C43 Merc AMGs (280hp-310hp) would also fall under that price point. I'm sure the Mustang would too!

I would go for corvette,1988 porsche 928 and BMW 850i

I am suprised to look at this 1988 porsche 928 which has still a high value where has others seems to be >1996.porsche has some real value.

Are you talking about that Indian Octavia RS peted to 300? In that case, the car used to cost 15 lakhs (Showroom) and would cost around 6 lakhs in the used car market. As for the mods, for 3 lakhs, you'd probably get only the exhaust system and the intake system for that price!

Yes, I am talking about the Indian Octavia RS but not talking about peted RS.
I guess you have to meet akshay (v1p3r) who has done the mods and all under 3lakhs for a 300bhp RS. He has also clocked a 13.xx for a 1/4 mile in Hyderabad drag.

We're going terribly OT here but just to clear a few things out, I never said that you cannot mod an RS and squeeze out 300 horses from it for just 3 lakhs.

If one were to consult Pete's for the mods, you'd probably get only a few mods like a larger Intercooler and an Exhaust system and possibly, a Stage I Remap. Which would definitely not yield 300 horses.

And yes, I know Akshay.

P.S. A 300 bhp Octavia has nothing to do with this topic. This thread talks about 300 horsepower cars that can be acquired for under $10k which would roughly be 4.5-5 lakhs.
