Top Gear's Attempt at Killing a Toyota Hilux Truck - Please share Your Views

Must watch:

One of Top Gear's episode titled "Killing a Toyota".

They took a 13 year old truck which had clocked 3,00,000 KMs (yes, you read it right, it is not a typo!) and did all kinds of harrowing tests on it, and the truck would not give in. It would cough, and start with a few minor tweaks. What a boy!!

Part1:
- check out what happens when she takes a dip in the ocean!

Part2: - can ANY car survive a 240 foot drop?

Part3: - Body holding the chassis together!

Just blew me off! No wonder Toyota cars command a premium even in the used car market. But, I seriously doubt, we have this quality in our vehicles now.

MODS: Move/Merge appropriately.

I don't believe this, Toyota has paid huge money to top gear to create such drama. The brand has taken a beating I guess with their recent recalls & failures, so the action as a result of this.

As mentioned in my previous post, the video is from Top Gear season 3, way back in 2003! Hence, it has nothing to do with the recent recalls.

Yeah, I have heard about some awesome episodes in Top Gear. In fact, just yesterday one of my colleague mentioned that he has a collection of the various seasons in a drive and would be passing it on to me

Mr_Bean raises an interesting point. Though these episodes are many years old, do you think the current gen Toyota vehicles have maintained the same quality these oldies? or is there are cost/quality cutting? (Current gen hilux at North pole - in another episode of Top Gear is a proof of its solid build quality/design, but what about other Toyota vehicles?)

Isn't Innova based on Hilux platform?

vasanthn21, in the poll question, did you mean trick or truck?

Interestingly, TopGear was testing the new Hiluxin in Iceland's snow filled volcanic mountain before the eruption began. I saw some great photos of that somewhere.

Check out the pics here.

BTW, that truck looks so good! I'd buy it if it is available here and if I can afford it

I'd be very surprised if a modern car, Toyota or otherwise, can survive that punishment. Today's cars are so much more dependent on electronics that I can't see them surviving punishment like that anymore.

Of course, I'm not saying that I prefer old school stuff. I'm a big fan of new technology and I like seeing new cars that make leaps and bounds in terms of performance using electronics. Nonetheless, that kind of punishment may be a tad too much.

McLaren, I agree. The modern day cars are more practical.

This stuff absolutely amazing but not practical. It is not meant to be dipped in the ocean or dropped from a building top.

BUT, for wierdos like most of us in the forum here, this is "salivating" stuff , don't you agree?

Thanks CleverMax & CrazyDriver, Awesome pics

i have a Hilux already booked and will be delivered by may.

its a full option double cabin 4x4 2.7 ltr petrol engine. 4 speed automatic, dual airbags and ABS. PS, PW, 158 bhp.

both innova and fortuner are based on Hilux platform.

the special forces of USA use tacoma/hilux V6 in their fight against taliban & co. in afghanistan. they chose this truck over clumsy humvees!

Absolutely amazing - loved its durability and endurance. I wish_ there are similar options available in India in a reasonable price- something like a bit premium over a Tata pickup . I am always keeping my fingers crossed on long drives apprehensive about car breaking down in the middle of the night on a lonely road- with such vehicle - peace of mind would be assured.
