New 2011 Ford explorer revealed

New 2011 Ford explorer revealed-2011_ford_explorer_f34_fe_72510_815.jpg

from 2011 Ford Explorer Revealed

Ford is revealing its redesigned 2011 Explorer today on a dedicated Facebook page, nearly six months ahead of the vehicle's on-sale date this winter. Many of the vehicle's details already have been released, including numerous teaser images that have been more ridiculous than revelatory.
Ford confirmed that the new car-based Explorer will offer a choice of two engines — a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque and a turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder rated at 237 hp and 250 lb-ft. Both engines will be mated to six-speed automatic transmissions, and both powertrain teams will offer fuel economy that is at or near the top of the class.
The new Explorer can be equipped for the first time with front-wheel drive (it shares its basic architecture with the Ford Taurus sedan) or "intelligent" four-wheel drive. The latter system, available on the V6 Explorer, comes with Hill Descent Control as well as Ford's new shift-on-the-fly terrain management system that enables the driver to select from Snow, Sand, Mud and Normal modes.
Ford has fitted electric power-assisted steering and a new feature, Curve Control, which automatically applies the brakes in a turn if the entry speed is too high. An option is active park assist technology, which automatically steers the vehicle into a parking space while the driver applies throttle and brake.
The automaker is touting its new MyFord driver connect technology, which comes standard on all three Explorer trim levels — base, XLT and Limited.
Customers can order the new Explorer with three rows of flexible seating. The second row of seats offers the industry's first inflatable safety belts. Among the safety options are adaptive cruise control, collision warning and a blind-spot information system with cross-traffic alert.
Other options include adjustable pedals, a rearview camera, remote start, push-button start, reverse sensing system and heated side mirrors with LED signal indicators.
Ford thinks it has solved one potential issue among owners of the truck-based Explorer — towing capacity. The 2011 model with V6 is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds. Towing capacity on the 2010 Explorer V6 4x2 is 3,500 pounds.

Finally after all the hype about the 2011 Explorer on facebook, it has been launched!! And it is a very good looking SUV. Interiors are also very nice! Amazing fuel economy for such a car!
Ford should bring this to India. If priced below 20L, this would bring good fortunes to Ford and even leave the Fortuner in the dust!

Ford is making all the right moves lately, India and outside. Good looking SUV with nice interiors and nicer fuel efficiency figures.

This looks exactly like the baby Range Rover that has been revealed. Must have been conceived when Ford owned LR?

IMO, JLR can file a suit claiming plagiarism, unless there's a deal in the cupboard.

Fortuner or Explorer

Even if Ford brings the explorer to India and prices it close to 20L, i think fortuner would still be the first choice of the customers. Reliability wise toyota has much better brand name then Ford. Only way to win over fortuner would be to reduce the waiting period, if ford can mange it.

I like sleek, contemporary design.Seems like they have taken a leaf out of LR's design bag.

Dude, the Explorer is a proper full-size SUV.Even if it makes it to India as a CKD,its sure to cost more than double of 20L.

The cockpit looks nice. It will be a real competitor for toyota Fortuner. Now Ford better understands the market pulse towards 'BigB' SUVs.

I'll second that, looks like they have copied some design cues from LR. The cheats.

Ford and Hyundai are the two companies doing all the right things and going by their form in recent years, these two companies are going to vie for the top slot very soon. With every new model released, my respect for these two companies is growing multi-fold.

The Explorer comes with a very clean design and it looks damn good. As said before several times, automotive designs will mostly be inspired and it's all about trying to hide the source of inspiration in the final product (which companies like Hyundai and in this case Ford are not able to do). This Explorer is going to sell in hordes and is going to recreate the magic created by the Fiesta in Europe and China. Great going Ford!

Comeon Ford, now after the stupendous success of the Figo, do some magic again in India.

Exterior looks like a mixture of Rangie and Ford EDGE. Interior (dash) has got more a car look than an SUV.
We had done lots of long distance travel in Explorer and Mountaineer and love them.
