Fist fight in F1

Adrian Sutil was involved in a fist fight with Eric Lux of Renault in the weekend of Chinese Grand Prix while celebrating Hamilton's win at a nightclub in Shanghai.

The other party involved in the fist fight has been reported to be Lewis himself. Now matters are getting serious since Eric has confirmed that he is getting ready for legal proceedings against Sutil and also the other party who were involved in the incident.

Re: Fist fight in F1

Interesting. Two non-Chinese citizens involved in a fist fight in China.

Where are they going to file a criminal complaint? According to principles of law, it ought to be the place where the incident occurred. But, neither the victim, nor the alleged aggressor live at place of incident.

If this was a legal forum, be assured of a ten page thread by today evening.

Re: Fist fight in F1

Fist Fights are very known to have happened in F1 from years back:

- Eddie Irvine once forced the legendary Ayrton Senna on a chicane to gain place and post race,Senna walked up to Eddie and punched him in his nose.Until then,Eddie carried same Helmet livery as Senna in respect to him.

- 1998 Spa : rain lashed race,David Coulthard following in his Mclaren the German Michael Schumacher in Ferrari and rams his Mclaren into the rear of Ferrari tearing away one wheel.MS limps back to pits on 3 wheels where both the cars arrive to retire and MS jumps out of this Ferrari to punch DC.The pit crew and mechanics stop them.

- 2001 : Ralf Schumacher takes his brother Michael out the race in a collision with his Jordan Honda. Both end up in a fist fight post race and Father Schumacher arrives to separate the warring brothers and takes away Ralf in an helicopter to diffuse the fight.
These are on the circuit fist fights..mind you!!!

Rather unruly behaviour in what is such a gentleman's sport today. Sutil clearly regrets the incident and has also gone on record with his apologies. I hope that this matter reaches a peaceful conclusion.

BTW, what's with nightclubs & fist fights? Of all the brawls I've seen, 75% have been in a nightclub. Yeah, it's prolly the adrenaline rush.

Re: Fist fight in F1

This was not just an ordinary fist fight. Various rumours swirling on the internet have said that it involved a broken champagne bottle to the neck of the injured and also 20 or more stitches.
I am wondering why there was such a long delay in filing the complaint though.
Will we get to see the Hulk back in an F1 car soon ?

Re: Fist fight in F1

The last jail sentence to a driver led to debut of one of F1's greatest..
Will Sutil's result in the same ?

Re: Fist fight in F1

Sutil has been sentenced to 1 year and 6 month suspended jail sentence, the judge considers it proven that he injured Lux "in a dangerous manner".

Re: Fist fight in F1

The suspended sentence seems to indicate that the judge and the prosecution accepted Sutil's plea that it wasn't intentional.
Not a lawyer, so do not know legal implications, and as a consequence the ramifications of the judgement.

Are you sure this happenned? Because Ralf was not driving for Jordan in 2001. He was with Williams.

Adding to list, Nelson Piquet Vs Salazar. Don't remember which year or which GP.

I don't think it was ever a gentleman's sport till big corporate sponsor's joined the party. A bit too corporate for what's considered a sport.

Anyway, surely finished off Sutil's F1 career.

Real reason for Adrian's act?

I've heard so many versions. I don't know which one to believe.

It is really shocking, he seemed to be such a calm individual. On and off the track you just never assumed he was one of those aggressive types.

Why did he really smack that Eric Lux?

The most believable version I heard is that he tried to spill the champagne on Lux's face, but instead he ended up jabbing the glass a bit too far and it ended up injuring him. This explains the "unintentional harm" and how he can be found guilty at the same time.

In retrospect, I gotta say Mallya was smart. He knew from the beginning Adrian would be found guilty .

I feel sorry for Sutil, it's easy to assume that his days in F1 are over.
