Welcome to the Dusty, Bumpy and the track with most number of turns - 16 in total. This F1 should be a little exciting.

Ah yes, they have the uncanny ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory lol:

Being a high downforce circuit, the gain from DRS should be the highest.
Hope the FIA make the DRS zone is long enough.

The tyre stops are going to play a key role here. Before Pirelli, it used to be quite a procession !

McLaren with its super fast pit stops can go for 4 stops as long as they are in the top 3 with reasonable gaps around. They will gain better speeds with the new tyres.

Lotus , Sauber and Williams will gamble on 3 stops I guess. Have to see what the others do.

It will not be on ESPN HD only on normal Star Sport:Frustrati

I am betting on a much more improved showing from Mclaren .. Ferrari and Red Bull should also be strong as the cars this weekend would not have any testing in between so no improvement package .

Mercedes struggles in dry weather is disappointing so being a die hard Schumi fan I am reduced to praying for rains every race lol:

Feel we'l see most teams settling for 2 stops, 3 will be a gamble. The teams have now learnt to manage tires quite well and the mediums should last atleast 28 laps if managed correctly.

Mclaren are faster by only half a second.. that's inconsequential it terms of deciding strategy.

Remember, there is only turn 1 which presents a real overtaking opportunity, being on the start-finish straight, use of KERS will also be key to maintain a gap into turn 1

The last race before the season break, this really is a critical one.

Am a die hard Kimi fan, so hoping for a strong show from Lotus. If they can get their qualifying right, they should be a handful for the rest.

But am hoping for a dry qualifying atleast. I want the speed to decide the grid position and not meteorological permutations and pit guesses regarding the tyre choices.

I was under the impression it was :

- Strategy : When the team called him in for fresh wets before his last 2 hot laps, with other beings on slightly worn ones.
- Brilliance : To put the car on pole.

Well it was luck when Raikkonen and Maldonaldo just couldn't complete a lap in the closing stages due to the heavy downpour.
Yes Alonso did a great job and I appreciate that, but overall this season to me has been entirely 'bout the race engineer's brilliance and tyre gambles rather than pace on the track.
I do not want to undermine any driver here, they're all great; I just find F1-2012 a little too much dependent on permutations and combinations.
It was a good result for ferrari, but had it stayed dry or rather 'less wet' the time sheets would have definitely tumbled a lot more, with the fastest guy being on pole, as it should be, even Alonso.

1. There was no heavy downpour during the closing stages. The track was at its Q3 dryest on the last few minutes of Q3 (when FA set his fastest time) No excuses for Kimi/Maldonado. And Kimi has screwed up qualifying for most of the season. (where tire management doesnt play a role).

2. You referred to pit guesses earlier. Dont you think this uncertainty (of not knowing long run pace for a race when practice/qualifying has been wet) bring out adaptibilty in a driver and team?

For the record, this is the only reason Jarno Trulli could never be world champion. He was supremely quick but just could not adapt to changing car dynamics during a race. Adaptability in a racing driver is key.

Do you remember Massa's race engineer telling him at the beggining of Q2 that rain was expected and that he should get in a lap right away?
He pushed too hard and went wide in sector 2 was it.. and Alonso managed to get that crucial lap in because there was no point in trying to be the quickest, just quick enough to make it to Q3.
Is this not what separates the good drivers from the great ones?

Lastly - After all that's been said about the Pirellis and tire management.
The driver leading the championship (with at best the 3rd quickest car even 4th/5th at certain times when Lotus and Sauber have got their race pace dialed in) is best driver in the world. No aberration there.

This is what makes a great champion, the ability to win in a car that is not the quickest.

In which channel is the qualifying being telecasted?
