2015 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

The race is turning out to be more exciting than anyone would have thought!
First we had the collision between Hulkengerg and Ericsson on 3rd corner of the opening lap that brought out Sochis first safety car.
Then Rosberg retires from the lead on lap8 due to some issues with the throttle!
So it is Ham-Bot-Rai-Vet-Per-kvy-ric-nas-mas-mal as of lap 11 with Kimi refusing to let Vettel pass.
(Update)Lap12: Grosjean loses control and crashes horribly into the barriers near turn 3 bringing out yet another safety car.

Re: 2015 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

Massa (P11, soft) is chasing down Alonso (P10, super-soft) on lap 35:
Alonso's race engineer: "We are racing Massa to the end"
Alonso: "I love your sense of humour"
Alonso's race engineer: "Well, we can have some fun while we're at it"

Inevitably, they swap places shortly thereafter.

Overtakes and collisions going on till the final lap for a podium position. Bottas and Kimi go past Perez and then Kimi goes in a little too hot wiping Bottas off!
The result? Checa scores a podium and Kimi nurses his car to 5th behind Massa. Though he will surely be penalised for the incident.
So it is Hamilton-Vettel-Perez on the podium!
And if Kimi does get penalised, then Mercedes will take the constructors title here. Else they will have to wait till Texas where they will lift both, the driver's and constructor's trophies.

What did Kimo do? Pulled Botas out of race and the accident is under investigation. It worked out for Perez though taking the 3rd position.

Re: 2015 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

One of the entertaining races of this season Looks like the gap that Hamilton opened up in the super softs helped him in the last few laps where he lost almost 8 seconds to Vettel.

Got to be said, it was Perez that did a stellar drive to third. A bit of luck in the form of Bottas-Kimi clash in the last lap did help his cause too.

Re: 2015 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

Interesting race for such a boring track (get rid of it!).

But once again all the interesting stuff was behind the winner.
- Nico's quite a bit of pain lately. LH 3rd WDC to happen next time around unless he DNFs. I would like that. No point in closing both championships so soon.
- Both Mclarens in points!! even they wouldn't have expected that.
- Kimi does a Maldonado on Bottas. Very likely to get a 20 sec time penalty. Will that make Merc WCCs?
- Hulk never their to pick up the pieces. Don't think he will ever graduate to a top team.

GOD i hope Ferrari develop a winner next year. It's getting painful to watch F1.

Hamilton didn't loose 8 seconds to Vettle. There was an offline radio transmission and after that he was on a cruise mode just maintaining the lead.

It was a racing incident. Bottas didn't defend the apex entry and left the door open, and Kimi took inside line. Bottas could have have left some gap there if he wanted.

Anyway, stewards think it's Raikkonen's fault and it's 30 second time penalty.

Kimster has been penalised and sent down the order in the Provisional classification from FIA.

Alonso lost his 10th place due to a 5sec penalty imposed by the stewards for cutting turn 16 during the race. What a shame. The first time a driver is penalised for cutting a corner this year...

If Kimi's demotion to P8 is finalized, then Mercedes have wrapped up the 2015 Constructors Championship! Nice stuff, congratulations to the champions.

Re: 2015 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

Haha.

Alonso is back with his wit!

Although, it also backfired.

During the F1 press conference in Russia on Thursday, McLaren Honda driver Fernando Alonso was asked a question about Manor having Mercedes engines, to which the former champion replied, "they can put an airplane engine (in the car) and they would be no further (ahead)."

To which, Manor F1 responded as follows:
