Re: 2016 Formula 1 Russian GP - Sochi

Boring race so switched after the 25th lap. Also missed the opening 5 laps. Need to find another sport to watch and follow.
Having said that, that Bottas is something to watch out for and also HAAS as a team. What amazing performance.
OT: was Vijay Mallya there in Sochi to get his comments?

A bit of truth in DC's comments where he said drivers like Vettel are used to qualifying up front on the top two rows. When they don't, getting clean starts from the mid field are a lot more complicated.

Having said that, I don't think he was to be blamed for his DNF in Sochi. Kvyat was penalized and made to apologize to Vettel post race.

We can understand the first contact and classify it as racing incident, the 2nd one was not. Kvyat should have been red flagged post the 2nd incident. Good that Redbull is having a word with him over the week when the dust has settled.

@nkrishnap; Kyvat's antics are unpardonable. Maybe he lost his balance in his home GP, I can see no other reason. Even the first contact was avoidable since the start lap is always chaotic.

I thought it was the other way around. The first contact was his mistake and the second contact was more like a racing incident as he would not have expected VET to slow down mid corner due to the puncture he was not aware of. Either ways he did not handle it well in the post race interview

First corner, the front locked up and he could not much knowing the fact that this circuit has a long straight before the first corner and good speeds were achieved by then. However, the 2nd one could have been avoided given the fact that a couple of other cars could avoid Vettel's car as it had got a puncture on the rear left (not sure of which rear wheel).

That's how it looked to me as well, on Sunday, but this angle gives a better picture. Not sure how Kvyat could have avoided Vettel here. Even if he did manage to react to Vettel slowing down, one of the Torro Rosso would've run into Kvyat's rear thereby resulting in a same sort of incident

Hamilton was really lucky, there.

I think Vettel was reacting to the injured Force India of Perez, which is not obvious from the video angle posted here.

Vettel got Hamilton to his left, he can't commit and go around the outside of snaking Perez, who was dealing with a puncture. Kvyat was bit unlucky actually here, this is a pure racing incident.

I think Kvyat need to calm down a bit, he is a fast driver, no doubt, just need to polish his skills. Vettel, in his early F1 career also had a reputation of crashing a lot in the first lap.

Look at Romain Grosjean, how he bounced back from the career ending first lap incidents.
