Hero enters offroad motorcycle racing with Speedbrain GmbH

Hero MotoCorp surprised everyone by announcing that it is entering the world of off-road motorcycle racing today. It has entered into a strategic partnership with Speedbrain GmbH, a German off-road racing specialist. The new Hero MotoSports Team Rally will make its debut at the Merzouga Rally in Morocco later this month.

Riding the motorcycles for Hero MotoSports Team Rally – and this is truly special – will be Indian riders. Hero MotoSports has announced that CS Santosh will ride for the team.

Hero MotoCorp has formed a partnership with Speedbrain GmbH, a German off-road racing motorcycle producing company. The partnership has formed the 'Hero MotoSports Team Rally', which will enter the Merzouga Rally, a Dakar Series race, in Morocco.

The Merzouga Rally is scheduled to be held from May 21 to May 27, 2016. The team will be using an upgraded version of the Speedbrain 450 rally motorcycle and will also be participating in other international rallies leading up to the Dakar Rally 2017.

The riders for the team are CS Santosh and Joaquim Rodrigues. CS Santosh is the first ever Indian to participate twice in the Dakar Rally. Joaquim Rodrigues is an experienced Motocross and Supercross rider.

The Hero MotoSports Team Rally will also assist in development and testing of new Hero concept vehicles, using the data collected from the races.

Hope the best practices/ learning from track will help in their future products and hence better customer satisfaction. Feel proud about this Indian company for their brave move.

Looks like TVS-Sherco is also joining the fray. Anyone has details on the Speedbrain motorcycle? Read somewhere the skeleton is a BMW. What is Hero's contribution on the technical side?

On a serious note, they can learn a lot by participating in these events. Lessons learned in the technical side can be percolated to future Hero products.

Or I could be completely wrong, they are doing this for publicity. I wish the former to be true, though.
