Re: 2016 Formula 1 Austrian GP – Red Bull Ring

Rosberg seems to have it under control so far

The lap times were almost three seconds faster than FP1 in 2015, thanks to changes to the track and resurfacing as well as faster cars. Rosberg did a 1m07.373s lap on the fourth lap of a seven lap run. The expectation is that the pole time will be in the high 1m 04s or low 1m 05s range, provided it stays dry on Saturday. There will be showers, but like in FP2 it could be a passing shower. Then the quali could turn into a lottery.

Ferrari used a token and changed the camshaft design.
Vettel has had a gearbox change and will take 5 place grid drop.
So this weekend seems like a straight forward Hamilton vs Rosberg fight.

Will know how much effect the wheel hub heating had since FIA has directed Pirelli to measure the tyre pressure before installation on the car.
Hopefully Pirelli will start reducing the tyre pressures from now on.
At Red Bull Ring, they are having 22 psi in front and 19.5 psi at back. That's in comparison to the previous year 4 psi more in front and 2.5 psi more in rear.

Sweet rain. Will Hulk get a penalty for speeding under yellows earlier?
Button will then start front row!

SFI is confident that he lifted off enough to escape penalty.

Looks like the banana kerbs are wrecking havoc with suspensions.
Maybe they need to paint a wall there for the PS4 trained pilots.

Hoping for rain tomorrow.
Looking at the show that F1 puts in under rains, maybe Bernie should seriously consider installing sprinklers around the track.

Well, that q3 was more fun than a lot of recent seasons! And, yay mclaren!
The aerial shots of the wet track were just numbingly beautiful.

Oohhh Nico! That would have been the drive of the year. Shame he couldn't hold on, silly move not even trying to turn in though, looked like he wanted to take Lewis out!

Good pace from McLaren.. things looking up.

Just heard the boos..looks like they are for Merc by the home red bull fans

Re: 2016 Formula 1 Austrian GP – Red Bull Ring

Very pathetic of the Austrian audience to boo Lewis like that.

I like how Lewis unapologetically said on the podium - "I'm here to win, I'm here to win."

Reminds me of what Senna said, "when you no longer go for a gap, you no longer a racing driver."

Very good move from Hamilton in the last lap only to be ruined by his team mate. Rosberg didn't even try to avoid the collision and he grossly underestimated Lewis pace. I really hope he is penalised for that move and for driving with a damaged car putting Max and Kimi at risk in case the wing exploded from underneath.

But since both cars were Mercedes I doubt there will be any Penalty handed to Rosberg.

Its really shameful of the the crowd to boo Hamilton.I liked the way Hamilton handled himself when that was happening.

The war is on and it would be fun to see both Mercedes drivers competing from here on.

Some entertainment because of the Merc boys.
This time it was Toto Wolf totally cheesed off.
He said it could have been a DNF for both instead of a 1-2

Well its because Nico Rosberg is German (in Austria the official language is German) and there will naturally be a lot of Nico Rosberg fans.

Hamilton gave plenty of room for Nico.

The present driver's championship standings.

What a finish.
Now let the blame game start.

Thank Wehrlein for his quick wits to reverse back into his grid slot. We didn't have an aborted start because of pulling upto the wrong grid place and got a 71 lap race instead of a 70 lap race.
Rightly rewarded with a point.

Looks like the Formula E title rivals are inspired by Austrian GP.

Some more info to analyse the race pace of various teams.

To me it seems Honda is beginning to turn things around.
Williams seems to be getting worse with their race pace.

I've seen a lot of squeezing in on the inside line, but an really trying to recall such an aggressive squeeze out on the outside line!
Could it be that rosberg went in too hot for the state of his tyres?
Boy, you don't shunt the shunt king!!
Excellent Hammer time!

Re: 2016 Formula 1 Austrian GP – Red Bull Ring

What an interesting ending!! I didnt see that coming at all! Also, SFI both not scoring when they started so well (atleast one of them anyway) is a great disappointment. Dont know what went wrong to hit the barriers in the last lap. Sad!

Edit: just read Brake problems for Perez and Tyre issues for Hulkenberg

The crash happened in the penultimate lap. Looked like the car did not slow down at all. It was quite disappointing for Hulkenberg to have DNF after starting off from the 2nd on the grid.

Re: 2016 Formula 1 Austrian GP – Red Bull Ring

Loved the ending to that race. That move was brilliant by Hamilton. IMHO Lewis was never in the fault. Rosberg not only drove hamilton wide at the right hander, he stuck on the edge of the circuit delaying Hamiltons come back onto the circuit as well. Im becoming a massive Lewis Hamilton fan now. Just like DC said during commentary of the race 'The driver that wins this race will probably win the title'. I am counting on Lewis for the title now.

Very stupid of Ferrari to keep Vettel out, I was just telling myself and my buddies watching with me that Vettel could suffer from a puncture if he keeps going and a few seconds later "BANG".

Good drive by Max to achieve 2nd place. Quite surprised Kimi struggled so much to get ahead of him. Very happy for the Mclarens too, shame they couldnt get both cars to finish. Alonso was 10th when he retired.

Next race is Silverstone, the boo's are going to get a lot louder for Rosberg. Cant wait!!
