Hesegawa has said that their aim is to match Mercedes power with comprehensive layout and technological changes etc. in 2017
They couldn't make the kind of update that they had wanted at Malaysia. Their original plan for development in combustion didn't go well as intended.
So Honda used token for something else as they didn't want to take any more time for 2016 PU.
- Both JB and FA received an update using 1 token for weight reduction in exhaust presumably.
- FA's new unit (friday one) received another 1 token for reliability improvement for what has been a concern so far with the engine block itself.
They expect to use the PU more aggressively and that should lead to performance improvement too, but unfortunately it is not that significant.
Hopefully the 2017 Honda PU will feature extreme lean burn tech. which will put them in the same ball park as the other PUs. |
