Re: Rumour: Force India F1 Team might drop ‘India’ from its name

Force India makes first move in ‘Force One’ name change.

Quote:
The only director listed is Dr Thiruvannamalai Laskshimi Kanthan, an accountant, financial consultant, and long time associate of Dr Vijay Mallya.

He is also a director of the Force India team and three other companies connected with it.

There was nothing indian in the team and was all hype to garner viewership and following for his team. I respected him a lot before but when his employees(read people making less than 15-20k) were not paid for months, that was when my opinion changed.

The banks are to be blamed equally, but we have a lot of such scandaled promoters in our country.

Re: Rumour: Force India F1 Team might drop ‘India’ from its name

Mallya is no fool. In Kingfisher Airlines episode maybe but he could have named it Mallya F1 or Mallya.
I remember the 2009 and 2010 days when Reliance, ICICI and a few others sponsored Force India.

Mallya back then was trying to sell Kingfisher beer by associating it with international repute and prestige to the Indian consumer.
Now that he sold his stake in Kingfisher to Diageo and his liquor interests have lessened, he may not have to worry about the Indian subcontinent and its consumers at all.

Mallya despite his failures and nuances is rational. I bet him buying Gandhi's belongings in New York was to enhance his credibility reputation and make news. Mallya is like Kim Kardashian to the fifth power.

Better to see the country's name get disassociated with F1 as there's just no commercial interest whatsoever. It's unfortunate but true.

I really hope the present government can try and get back F1 into the country. The Indian GP was a good one to have on the calendar and with Liberty Media wanting to increase the number of races, it's a good chance for us to get back.
