Saw this crash on a link shared on Twitter at the Formula 3 race Macau Grand Prix involving German teenage driver Sophia Floersch. Incredibly, she has survived this high-speed crash albeit with a fractured spine. The 17-year-old driver lost control of her Van Amersfoort car at a speed of just under 280km/h on Sunday. Her car hit fellow driver Sho Tsuboi before being catapulted through the air and through fencing.

It baffles me on why Marshals were positioned on the outside of the corner. It is well known that cars would head on the tangent around a corner, if something goes wrong.

This video shows exactly what triggered the deadly crash. The accident was triggered by Floersch running in to the back of Jehan Daruvala – who appeared to slow for yellow warning flags. Sophia was really close to Jehan, so when Jehan braked early she had no time to react. She hit Jehan’s right-rear, and that spun her around straight into Lisboa, and she flew into the other car.
