Rumour: Is Toto Wolff stepping down as Team Principal of Mercedes F1?

https://www.essentiallysports.com/f1...es-f1-reports/

Quote:
Wolff recently hinted that he was staying with Mercedes for the short term but things may be worse than they appear. However, Wolff will allegedly continue to work for the team, but not in a team principal capacity. Wolff’s decision will have a major impact not only on The future of Mercedes as a team but also on the 2021 driver market.

Daimler is pushing for Sebastian Vettel to join the team in 2021.

Maybe, maybe not. The same portal carries news of Daimler's official response to the rumour:

News Link

Quote:
“Speculation regarding a potential withdrawal from Formula One continues to be unfounded and irresponsible,”

“The sport has taken the right measures to address the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and its future financial sustainability, and we welcome these steps.

“It is our clear intention to continue competing in Formula One as a Mercedes-Benz works team in the years to come, and to do so with our managing partner Toto Wolff.”
That said, the possibility of a team sellout cannot be ruled out. I'm trying to find the post where our mod ajmat mentioned the possibility of a sellout of the F1 team since it appears to be draining the parent company quite a bit.

EDIT:

Found the post: link. (Formula 1: Mercedes wins the constructors' championship)

Re: Rumour: Is Toto Wolff stepping down as Team Principal of Mercedes F1?

Quite possible

1: Toto is a significant shareholder in Aston Martin
2: Aston Martin will be a rival team next year
3: Mercedes F1 supplies engines to Aston
4: Mercedes CEO Ola K does not get on with him and is trying to control costs

1-3 is fine for a typical IPL match situation but not in Europe as there is too much conflict of interest. It will be a case of "when" he steps down
Toto has already poached the AMG head for Aston Martin - what next?

PS - Toto has plenty of race management commitments outside Mercedes F1 and his wife has some interest in Formula E if I am correct so no big deal whatever happens
