Formula 1: The Emilia Romagna GP - Imola (October 31 - November 01)

What is arguably one of the most historic tracks of F1, Imola, is back after 14 long years. For starters, here's a quick history of this beautiful track.

Pirelli has chosen the C2, C3 & C4 compounds for this race. Temperatures are expected to stay around 18 Degree Celsius.

Top 10 Moments of Imola

IMO, Leclerc is acing it on the grid right now with that tractor of a car. He's repetitively got P4 in Quali and his performance in Portimao just proved his mettle. McLaren & Renault too are on a whole different these days with both of them fighting strongly with Racing Point for that 3rd Position in the Constructor's Championship.

I'm extremely sorry for the delay in this thread. Have been stuck up with exams and just couldn't find any time for it.

The little amazing things.

Verstappen pulls up with a misfiring cylinder on his first Q2 run, and the engine crew manages to get him turned around in about 7 mins (less than half the estimated 15 mins it takes to swap a spark plug), and enough left on the clock to get a timed lap in.

World-class stuff from the unsung guys in the pits

Amazing Race!

The result was although as expected, a Mercedes 1-2. Gotta feel bad for Verstappen though, was driving brilliantly and had Bottas to score a second.

On the other hand, with Verstappen out, Albon had the chance to prove his worth to the team but he misses that opportunity yet again!

Meanwhile, Stroll injures a member of the Pit Crew

Re: Formula 1: The Emilia Romagna GP - Imola (October 31 - November 01)

WHAT an action-filled race! Mercedes are of course of on a roll.

Germany: Record Equalled (91)
Portimao: Record Surpassed (92)
Imola: Lewis Hamilton Completes 93 wins + a record with the 7th consecutive constructor's championship!

Heart goes out to Bottas, Albon, Verstappen & Russell, all performing so good today. Verstappen taken out by a puncture, Russell lost his first championship point under a Safety Car. Albon just doesn't have luck - shunted into by Carlos Sainz. First pointless race for Redbull. Unfortunate for Gasly too, he was on such good form this weekend.

Daniel Ricciardo & Charles Leclerc had such a good ride, aided even more by the extended safety car thanks to Verstappen finishing P3 & P5 respectively. Daniil Kvyat, what a drive! Especially in the last 3 laps, finishes P4. Perez too had the opportunity but for some reason, RP decides to pit him.

Last but definitely not the least, I really don't know what to say to Lance Stroll. He seems to have lost a lot after testing positive for COVID.

Carlos Sainz did not hit Albon. He spun on his own on exiting the corner. He finally was going to get a good result and bins it.

Mercedes won their 7th constructors championship and LH will probably seal the drivers championship next race.

Albon drove a disastrous race. Sadly the writing is on the wall. He made an Un enforced error and did a vettel.

Re: Formula 1: The Emilia Romagna GP - Imola (October 31 - November 01)

Congratulations to Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team for their 7th consecutive constructor’s championship. Giving themselves a world record.

I feel bad for a few guys, but mostly towards Vettel. It has already been a bad divorce between himself & Ferrari, and is worsening after every race with screw ups like today’s pit stop.

Poor luck for Gasly, with the coolant leak on his AlphaTauri. Otherwise he may have gotten a podium at the very least, with Imola being Ferrari & AlphaTauri’s test track I believe.

Verstappen had a brilliant race, even capitalising on Bottas’ mistakes due to some damage to the Merc. But sadly an instant puncture ended his race.

Bad enough, Albon couldn’t seize the opportunity & spun after the safety car came in, almost taking out Sainz. Lucky for Sainz he avoided the crash.

The best thing for me about this race was Ricciardo’s P3! A deserving win indeed.
And Leclerc’s P5.

Apologies for the same. Upon further rechecking it does seem like Albon spun out on his own while riding the kerb.

Re: Formula 1: The Emilia Romagna GP - Imola (October 31 - November 01)

A seventh constructors championship for Mercedes! Well deserved and a fitting result for one of F1s greatest teams. I was lucky to watch Schumy team up with Ross Brawn and Jean Todt to achieve something similar at Ferrari. Over the years many teams have promised to go the distance, Renault, Red Bull, BrawnGP..but ultimately they faltered after two or three years. The demise of Ferrari and the rise of Mercedes to me epitomises how a championship winning team should be built and how it shouldn't. At Mercedes, Toto is given the reins to run the show and he back Lewis to the hilt. While at Ferrari, it always seems like a million leaders. 2018 was their best chance and several times since 2015 it looked like Vettel was their team principal. Unnecessary pressure on a driver.

I have never seen a season where track limits was as big an issue as this year and no more so confusing as at Imola. I am not sure I understand why.

Bottas is improving by leaps and bounds. The pole yesterday followed by his flawless getaway in the race today showed how much better he is taking the game to Lewis. Unfortunately he was done in first by debris damaging his aero and then the VSC which was a stroke of luck for Lewis.

And then Verstappen's luck ran out. A sure shot podium done in by a tyre that just didn't want to go the distance. While Albon's tyres got cold feet...literally causing his car to swap ends. Impressive recovery though. Looks like the tyres had it in for Red Bull today!

I was massively disappointed for Russell; after so much hard work and commitment all through the season to lose his maiden point finish like that - gut wrenching.

I am sure none of us will grudge Riccardo. I don't think there is a more popular winner on the podium these days. Waiting to see what he can do next year at Mclaren with the Mercedes engine. This should be good!

Old man Raikonen..pulling off a brilliantly managed tyre strategy and finishing in the points. Vettel should have been there to if not for a botched pit stop. Leclerc though, drove superbly to finish a creditable 5th...something that feels like a win for Ferrari these days! Forza Ferrari!!

Drive on,
Shibu

Its always great seeing a Mercedes 1-2 with ricciardo on the podium as well. Gasly's DNF after the brilliant run he had in qualifying was quite sad.

Formula 1: The Emilia Romagna GP - Imola (October 31 - November 01)

One of those races where it seemed boring up to the first 40-45 laps and then chaos due to a SC!

Bottas must be really wishing that Hamilton retires this season after a 7th title! There is just no way in a thousand years that Bottas is ever going to beat Hamilton! The difference in talent, pace, tyre management is too big between these two!

For RBR, it was a weekend to forget. First Gasly had to retire, then Max had a major issue and then Albon spun. Only silver lining was Kvyat being in the top 5. But I think Gasly is a future talent to watch for! RBR cannot confine him to Alpha tauri for long. I can see him moving to Renault Alpine in the future as a replacement for Ocon or even Alonso 2 years down the line.

Leclerc once again showing how mature and calm he is in these narrow tracks, especially at the start where its very easy to be part of an unfortunate incident! He is one of those solid drivers who Ferrari can really bank up on. Also sad that Vettel had his race ruined due to a very poor pit stop. He had done everything right up to that point. Ferrari should really learn from RBR, Mclaren and Mercedes on pit stops. For many years ferrari has had very average pit stops and has never looked to be as sharp as the these other 3. Not fitting of a top tier team at all.

Lastly, why did Racing point pit Perez at all?He had newer tyres compared to Ricciardo and Leclerc anyway, and the track was notoriously difficult to overtake. And there were just around 10 laps to go when Max crashed. Also, Stroll seems to be nowhere near Perez in most races, I believe Vettel, in spite of his current form, would be also much quicker than Stroll. How long are they going to hold on to him? I think they should give him just the one year and then he should just move on if he doesnt get close to Vettel.

Bottas was running with Ferrari aerodynamics. That's why he was slower than Hamilton and Verstappen.
