Re: Formula 1 : 2021 Spanish Grand Prix (7 - 9 May)

The larger issue here was not about Red Bull dropping the ball in terms of reacting to Mercedes.

They couldn't. Mercedes actually set this up on Saturday. Max couldn't go in for a pitstop early because he didn't have a new set of mediums at his disposal. He had a new set of softs. He could have had a great stop come out ahead and pulled away but then again would have been a sitting duck for Lewis around lap 55 and possibly even for Bottas to be able to overtake him towards the end of the race. Mercedes set this up and the pulled the rug from under them during the race.

Also this was brilliant because while it was a really good strategy, its execution was almost Federesque in terms of its precision. Everything for Mercedes seemed to work like clockwork. This was one of those high risk strategies, that had to factor in soild pitstops, hope for no safety cars and then needed a flawless drive - and make no mistake, Hamilton delivered that. He literally did not put a wheel wrong after that 2nd pitstop while reeling in not just Max but also Bottas.

I don't think anyone can call this race boring. Not one bit.

What worries me though is Verstappen's reaction. They were out maneuvered and out driven, but I've never heard Max Verstappen resigned. After he lost the place he had a sense of resignation about him - in terms of this race only. It seems like Nico Rosberg's comment was more applicable here rather that Portugal.

Hamilton’s tyre management & matured driving is again proven one more time! He did not rush at any point of time to use the DRS over aggressively to make any mistakes. He patiently waited for the exact time & then pounced upon flawlessly to overtake Max.

Only reason for Mazepin to be there in Haas team is to get the sponsorship money!

Their principal sponsor is Dad! Good luck to them in attracting more sponsors with these drives. Having said that MSC Jr is doing a genuine job in that slow car so hope some sponsors back the team for him.

Ionos 1&1, and Schuberth are both german. There is bound to be some consideration there for the Schumacher name.

Re: Formula 1 : 2021 Spanish Grand Prix (7 - 9 May)

Redbull's flexible rear wing became a hot talking point at the Spanish Grand Prix, when Lewis Hamilton suggested Red Bull had been running a ‘bendy’ rear wing to boost straightline speed performance.

Here are the videos showing the Redbull's rear wing actually flexing. One can clearly see if you focus on the tip of shark-fin engine cover.

As a consequence, the FIA has invoked article 3.9.9 of the technical regulations that permits it to introduce further load/deflection tests on any part of the car it deems fit.

As such, new tests will be introduced from June 15 in an attempt to curb the practice whilst also giving the teams the necessary time to prepare designs that comply.
