Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

Scary accidents from Tyre failures. This is on the fastest section of the track. Good to see Stroll and Max walking away from the crash with no injuries.

Brilliant race by Perez. An excellent win.

What a heartbreak for Max and a boon for Perez. A good race for RedBull overall.
Perez really drove well and his knack to preserve tyres really helped him with his first win for RedBull.
This is why Perez is very important for RedBull to beat Mercedes at the Championships.

A rare mistake by Lewis, he could have taken championship lead with a bit of patience.

What a result for Vettel to take the 2nd place podium beating both Gasly and Charles.
Back to back good results by Vettel is important for his morale.

Good results for Alpha Tauri to get both cars in the points and a podium.

Ferrari have no race pace as can be seen by their struggles.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

Very, very interesting race, I must say. What was scary was the Tyre Failures, glad that both of them were safe.
Vettel, Perez, Gasly, Leclerc, Hamilton & Verstappen had great drives. Just sheer bad luck for Hamilton & Verstappen.
So glad to see Vettel back on the podium and seems like Aston Martin have had some kind of resurgence. Checo did superb by holding off Hamilton just over a second or so.
I feel Vettel knew that the car was capable of doing much better in quali, even if he couldn't, he did it now.
Redbull leads constructors (22 points) while Verstappen still leads Lewis in the Driver's Championship (by 4 points).
Baku never fails to deliver!

Final two laps were definitely the most entertaining. After all the drama, absolutely no change in the championship leaderboard (Top 2).

Refreshing to see Vettel on podium after a long time.

Loved the result. Good to see Vettel finish on the podium, but the scrap between Leclerc and Gasly was brilliant. The last two laps really changed the game.

Brilliant finish by Alonso as well, made the best from the restart. Good to see him getting points as it should boost his confidence.

Baku did not disappoint at all.

Brilliant Race!

It’s always nice to see Vettel on the podium, having Checo there with him is a bonus. Vettel and Checo both know how to properly manage their tyres. Sad for Lewis and Max but you know you can’t always be on the podium. Also, Pirelli engineers would seriously need to investigate what went wrong with those tyres if the suggested tyre age is 40 laps. Still, this was clearly the most entertaining race of the season yet.

P.S: tomorrow’s headline would be Nikita Mazepin finishes ahead of Lewis Hamilton.

Thank god for that but I think Red Bull have galloped ahead in the constructors!

That podium felt like a poster of redemption! Three drivers unceremoniously outcast by their earlier teams soaking up all the pressures while keeping it cool and clean in key moments of the grand prix to come out at the top 3! Absolute delight!

With Perez asserting himself at RB, Mercedes will have real hard time holding on to the WCC title. Lewis may still pull out a WDC, but signs are ominous that the Red Bull may beat the Mercedes for constructors this year.

This was by far the craziest race of the season. Totally unbelievable and the podium finishes were just not expected. It was also the first time when my entire family was glued to the screen, I'm happy that my Mom and Dad loved it as much as I did. I'm a big Vettel fan and I couldn't have been happier. And at the same time I feel so bad for Max, it was not his day but what I'm worried is about those Pirellies giving up like that without a warning, first on Lance Stroll and then Max, what is up with them?

P.S. Best part was everyone walked out safely, it speaks a lot about the hard work and engineering behind these mammoths.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

Baku manages to be a nail biting event almost every year! While I’m personally gutted that Leclerc couldn’t convert his pole to a podium, I’m extremely happy for Perez and Vettel. These guys truly deserved the top 2 steps of the podium today. Yes, Max retired due to a tire blowout, but Perez was always in the mix and when the lead car failed, Perez was waiting to grab the opportunity. This is what Redbull have always wanted from their 2nd driver, grab that opportunity when the other fails! I really hope Perez maintains this kind of momentum and is hopefully retained by redbull for at least another 2 seasons.

And Vettel, one of my most favourite drivers and a great personality, he went through so much last 2 years, a lot of it due to his mistakes, but he showed his class earlier in Monaco and now in Baku. Everyone in Baku spoke about the undercut, but Vettel made the overcut work!

Almost all drivers came over and appreciated Vettel and Perez including Alonso, Leclerc and more. Seems like these guys understand the mental toll it takes when one goes through a tough period!

Leclerc, well he did his best, but in race trim the Ferrari struggles more than its qualifying form. But he should have taken that 3rd place from Gasly, easier said than done I guess, but nevertheless a good drive from him. Sainz, his weakness seems to be the starts, he loses positions at the start always, even in Baku he lost a place at the start and I think once again in the restart he lost one. And his costly mistake earlier in the race could not be salvaged, even though he got closer to the pack during the safety car period. But the good thing is that he is always in the mix. I hope he only gets better from here.

Mercedes, what a roller coaster weekend! From being really poor in the practice sessions to Lewis making it to P2 in qualifying and then almost winning the race today and finally to both cars not finishing in the points! And Mercedes have no reason to retain Bottas beyond 2021. It’s been 5 seasons now, so he has had a fair run in a top car that all other drivers can only dream of! Team orders aside, he has never given Hamilton a true fight! Makes me respect Rosberg a lot more now!

Anyway, great fun watching this race unlike Monaco which was an absolute bore fest!

Here's the race result, driver's championship and constructor's championship standings after the race.

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

Outstanding!

The race was fantastic. Got more interesting after the yellow flag on Stroll's crash and even more after the red flag.

But those were horrible crashes at the fastest part of the circuit, glad both drivers walked away kicking! Pirelli surely have to look into the tires as they had mentioned that the hard compounds would last for 40 laps.

Perez and Vettel were too good throughout the race. Especially Perez, very nice team play in from the start.

A very rare and stupid mistake by Hamilton during the restart. He could have taken things a little slower than that, given that his brakes were smoking hot. Even holding the 2nd position would have been fine for his championship as Max was already out.
Having said that, we can see how much pressure is Hamilton under.

Overall, I am very happy for Vettel and Perez.

Also glad that the championship battle stays cut throat and neither one has pulled far ahead.

No change in the first 2 places at all after today's race.
However, 3rd place now belongs to Perez, replacing Norris.
So now its a Ham sandwich by redbull(pun intended).

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

I will remember this race for the rest of my life. Why? Today the three drivers I admire the most finished on the podium.

Let me first talk about Perez. I think he drove phenomenoly today. The way he drove after being chased by the animal that is Lewis Hamilton under pressure is amazing. I am happy for him. The deserved winner today.

And now Vettel. Some of you might know that Seb is my idol and hero. Seeing him on the podium made my day. After everything he has been through , he deserves it.

And for Aston. They have nailed their tyre strategy in the past few races. Lance would have also got a comfortable top ten if it wasn't for the unfortunate incident of his tyre bursting.

And Gasly . What can I say. I remember as a 13 year old telling everyone that he would become big . Many laughed at me. 4 years latter I am glad that I stuck by his side. The man is an absolute gem. He drives extremely well under pressure. I hope he has an amazing career ahead.

And what else:
* Yuki looked good today.
* Carlos made a decent comeback to 8th after his slip up.
* Fernando came 6th. Not bad .

Re: Formula 1 | 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix | Baku Street Circuit | 04-06 June, 2021

This has to be in the top 5 races of all time !
I was so happy for Perez (I always root for this guy). If I keep the P1 aside, this guy made Hamilton doubt himself.
He kept Hamilton at the back even after Stroll’s accident.
And seeing Vettel on the podium was a different kind of feeling. I hope his pace stays for the remaining season.
This race was everything I wished for.
Perez on P1. Vettel on the podium. New guys going all out.
