2023 Formula 1 Rolex Austrian Grand Prix | Red Bull Ring | Spielberg | 30 June - 02 July

This weekend's race is in Red Bull's backyard, the Red Bull Ring. One of the most scenic tracks on the F1 calendar.

Ferrari seems to have found some pace here. Hope they close the gap to Aston Martin this weekend.

Re: 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Austrian Grand Prix | Red Bull Ring | Spielberg | 30 June - 02 July

Since I didn't subscribe to F1 TV, am solely relying on internet for the grand prix stuff. I will only subscribe once Ferrari starts winning because only then I will feel it is vfm. Based on the qualification and sprint race it looks they have improved a lot, not challenging Redbull but atleast against AM and Mercedes.

My question to all those watching the race on F1 tv, is it just track specific or did Ferrari actually improved because of their upgrades?

Verstappen clearly blocked Lewis during the sprint shootout. Lewis was starting is lap while in he last corner while Max was approaching to compleye his lap did that hamper Max a bit yes. But Max made sure to block Lewis in the first corner.

Victory for Verstappen in Austria to make it five wins in a row.

Perez delivered a fine recovery from 15th on the grid to end a difficult run and take his first podium since the Miami Grand Prix four races ago.

What an interesting race for the mid field.

Solid recovery from Perez to finish on the podium, especially after the torrid time he's been having at Qualifying. Should settle some nerves. Wonder what happened to Sainz - who at one point was threatening Leclerc. And Hamilton, who was in the running for a podium finish.

That said, Max Verstappen!! What a gutsy move for the extra point for fastest lap. There's some saying about a great driver pushing for a non-existing gap? I think Max has exceeded that. He had the race in the pocket, and while the margin was enough for a win, it was not so comfortable that it could account for a slip-up. Full marks to RBR as well for a clinical pitstop. Absolutely ruthless!

Except the futile defense by Sainz which added some good racing time to the race, this was another boring race. Max domination has just made this boring, seems other teams have also given up already.

At this pace this might probably be the last season I watch for sometime.

Re: 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Austrian Grand Prix | Red Bull Ring | Spielberg | 30 June - 02 July

An action packed race over all. At every point some interesting moves were going on, especially from the midfield and lower midfield cars. And the plethora of penalties issued for track limit violations added another strategy for the teams to play with.

Another day to forget for Sainz. But unlike the ones so far, this should be the most difficult for him. Had it not been for the poor driver management by Ferrari Sainz would have ended up in the podium for sure.

Checo is like that ex many of us might have had. For one good memory to cherish he would give many other to forget. Hope he continues to be this consistent.

I prayed for a lug nut to be stuck when Max pitted for new tires. Totally unnecessary at that point of the race and felt more like a move to take back Checo's point than to be a champion's mindset.

It was really nice to see Hamilton being Hamilton again. They should really let bygones be bygones.

Re: 2023 Formula 1 Rolex Austrian Grand Prix | Red Bull Ring | Spielberg | 30 June - 02 July

This was an enjoyable F1 weekend as both the sprint and the main race were thoroughly entertaining. The opening sparring between VER and LEC, the VSC which saw everyone pitting except the Red Bulls and BOT, Max catching up on SAI and LEC, PER's own blazing race and the battle between PER and SAI were entertaining to watch.
NOR always was good at this venue and he put up a good show today. Steward's dishing out the 5-second penalties was entertaining and Toto telling “Lewis, the car is bad, we know. Please drive it!” was the icing.
VER's pitstop to secure the fastest lap in the dying stages is honestly a reflection of how RB was this year. Composed, clinical and supremely confident in their own abilities.

Ferrari’s upgrades have worked, this improvement should sustain. They will not be seriously challenging Red Bull but should be fighting to be behind them.

Cheers

A bit of a nutty race with drivers not adhering to track limits!
Shame about the 1st VSC, would have been interesting to see how long Alonso could go on the Hard in the 1st stint.

Exciting battle now between Ferrari, Aston, Mercedes & McLaren.

Track limits are the same for everyone and all that jazz but when there are more than 1200 potential track limit violations in the race, then something is wrong with the rule. Eight drivers demoted after the race (besides the ones during the race) due to this rule clearly shows it’s time they amend this rule in the interest of practicality and common sense.

Cheers
