Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

I think the Formula E races cars lack one key ingredient: speed

I tried watching Formula E once, and it was boring to watch the slow cars, especially when you can spend time watching similar event with vehicles that are way too fast and exciting like Formula 1 or World Rally championship or Motogp, Superbike/Isle of Man races. It is the same reason why not a lot of folks follow Formula 2 or motogp of 125cc class.

Moreover, since majority of people still use IC engine powered cars, they can relate it instantly with the race cars running on IC engines. I for one, am not at all interested in electric cars at this point as far as competitive racing is concerned. For me, its just powerful motors, batteries and regeneration tech plonked in racing cars that we have seen for years. Formula E needs to do lot of marketing/advertising on all fronts to generate interest.

What will really make a good racing event is having road legal electric cars with famous drivers. Imagine Tesla Model S competing with Porsche Taycan and Rivian vs Cybertruck

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

"Every great race needs a great rivalry." Remembered this from Truth in 24 and how accurately it describes what any good racing series needs.
F1 has Verstappen Vs Leclerc/Hamilton/Sainz/Perez (LOL)
MotoGP has Pecco Vs Martin Vs Marquez Vs Bezzechi (Moto3 Masia Vs Sasaki, Moto2 was quite boring)
WEC had Audi Vs Porsche Vs Toyota which fizzled away once the VW group decided to leave, leaving it to be a Toyota show, only interrupted in 2023 by Ferrari
WRC too became boring after VW left, leaving this to as a Toyota show, Ford and Hyundai not able to keep up
Though I haven't watched Formula e that much, the ones I watched weren't exactly spectacular (mostly having former F1 drivers etc.), lacked the sizzle of F1 IMHO

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

It is still relatively new racing series than some of the other ones and I think its popularity has been steadily. The speed of its popularity might be slow but it is certainly going upwords.

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

Do watch a FormualE race for the following reasons:

-Jaguar Tata Consultancy & Mahindra have their factory teams taking part, currently Jaguar TCS is leading the individual and team championships

-Jehan Daruwalla is improving driving for Maserati

-Lots of overtaking

-Lots of contact too, and the cars keep on racing

Next race is in 9 days in Shanghai, live on SonyLiv

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

Developed by specialists from Formula E and the FIA, the latest GEN3 Evo edition marks a significant leap in electric racing technology, with acceleration 0-60mph 30% faster than a F1 car

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

Can JaguarTCS racing win the FormulaE world championship tonight beating Porsche?

With an exciting turn of events, Wehrlein and Porsche have taken the drivers championship lead over JaguarTCS.

You can watch the final race live on SonyLiv, Sunday at 9.30 p.m.

Re: Why Formula E hasn't managed to grab enough attention?

Some of the formula e races i have seen have been exciting but i found formula e to be not exciting due to following reasons:
1. Lack of engine sound: The kind of sound formula e cars make, it looks as if e rickshaws have gone racing.
2. Circuit Layout: i think the circuits used in formula e are not exciting, the lack of straights and a twisty turning layout simply makes it unexciting.
3. Energy conservation mode the cars go in after a few laps makes it a boring affair.
And plus the cars are not that fast... So clearly FIA needs methods like having powerful cars etc to spruce up the racing!
