A Formula E return to India? "Hopefully it will happen in 2026" - Co-Founder, Alberto Longo

Ahead of the final weekend of the 2024 Formula E season in London, spokespersons and officials in Formula E have revealed that they are attempting to make a return to India by 2026.
The last race in India, was the Hyderabad ePrix in the previous 2023 season, however the 2024 Formula E Hyderabad E-Prix was cancelled in January 2024 due to a breach of contract by
the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) of the Government of Telangana.

With 2 Indian teams on the grid, JaguarTCS Racing and Mahindra Racing, and the increase of EV market share and the popularity motorsport in India, there is definitely a lot going for
Formula E. As mentioned in the article below, they have revealed that they are in talks with 3 Indian cities.
The question is whether they can secure a return by 2026, and what would the level of anticipation be for Indian motorsport fans? The racing is close, and heavily dependent on successful strategy, risks, and energy conservation.
Races are currently available to stream on SonyLiv.

Is the future of Formula E in India promising?

"Unfortunately due to the change of government in Telangana, we had to leave Hyderabad. It was a fantastic race. India is a Tier 1 market for us. We are working on a daily basis to try
to be back there. Hopefully it will happen in 2026," - Alberto Longo, Formula E co-founder

"Formula E is in talks with three big cities in India for a potential return of the race in 2026, top officials of the all-electric racing series"

More promising, entertaining & fun motorsport events like Formula 1 & MotoGP have struggled in India. My questions are:

- Who is going to watch a Formula E race? No one even watches it on TV. They are so boring.

- Ask any enthusiast to name 3 drivers in Formula E. You'll get a blank stare.

- Who is going to pay for it? Certainly not the central or state governments, as we have often seen with motorsport events.

The only thing going for Formula E in India is the participation of Indian teams. But Formula 1 as well had teams with Indian ownership, and also famous Indian drivers.

That being said, I hope Liberty Media is able to transform Formula E like they did Formula 1.
