WEC 2025 1812 KM of Qatar: Is it finally Ferrari's time to shine? The 2025 World Endurance Championship got off to a banging start in Lusail on the 28th of February, Friday. The season opener in Qatar showed everyone the new boss on the grid, and it's not the wail of the V12, but the undoubtable neigh of a prancing horse.
Ferrari dominated the qualifying sessions on Thursday, clearing the rest of the field by quite some margin. The three LMh Ferraris continued this show by locking out the podium on race day. Following mishaps from Cadillac, surprising competitiveness from the Alpines and BMWs and the lack thereof, from Porsche and last year's champions, Toyota, it was Ferrari's day to own. They started strong and managed to blitz the field, despite snags in the garages, something we've become all too familiar with in recent times. Clowning around in the pits has become a habit for the Italian marque. But, despite that, they managed to outrun the entire field. BMW and Alpine showed amazing race pace, along with the Cadillacs that were in the contention for best of the rest, until that half-witted restart destroyed their chances to take the fight to Ferrari.
Toyota and Porsche looked lost, hanging further down the grid with the hopelessly slow Valkyries, which looked to be in the race as a marketing exercise rather than to win. While the V12s sounded like a symphony from heaven, the race pace just wasn't there. Aston have a long way to go to catch up. Toyota's magical race pace was completely missing this time around. Some costly driver errors just compounded their misery. Porsche were ineffective too, in a race that they won in style last year. This seems like Ferrari's year to win it all. Will they finally bag the Championship, or fall prey to the BoP that they will inevitably be hit with, in the coming races?
I will allow the other members following the WEC to fill in with their opinions and expertise. As a Ferrari fanboy since forever, this year might finally be the one worth celebrating. Too early to call, but we're in for a treat of some great racing either way. |
