Dakkar Rally - Dakkar anymore?

with the Dakkar rally 2008 being cancelled because of a perceived terrorist threat, the next years Dakkar (2009) will be held in South America. Now- would that make it still the famous Paris Dakkar any more? or is it just a dakkar rally?

The new route is going to be starting from Argentina - moving through Chile touching the pacific- moving back through the Atacama desert back to argentina.

Starting Jan 2009- this is bringing a whole new perspective to the Rally.

though the dakar rally will not run thru africa a new event called RACE AFRICA will be run during the same time.It will start in marseilles and end in Dakar.it will be organised by hubert auriol.
