I dont know if this qualifies as a motorsport or just sport. Saw this live on TV and thought should post a thread about this. Also thought this would fit in with the Football World Cup theme. Mods please delete the thread if found inappropriate.

A pitch with two goal posts, two cars, two drivers, an oversized ball and lots of crazy spectators. This is the setup 'Autoball Weltmeisterschaft 2010' or 'Car ball World Cup 2010'.



The rules are simple, place the ball in the opponents goal post and you score a goal. The team with the maximum goals at the end of the 5 minutes wins. Substitution is possible, if one of the 'mechanic' refrees feel that your car is good for nothing, you get a new car. You are penalised and give yellow or red card based on how rash you drive. The ball also gets replaced wuite often, as it cannot stand the pressure between two cars for long. There is lots of live bands and live music through out the night.

This game started in 2008 prior to the European Football Championship in 2008. This time it is happening just one week before the 2010 Fifa World Cup football. The competition is happening live as I am typing this at the LanxessArena in Cologne, Germany. 8 countries represented by 8 drivers are participating, Stefan Raab (Germany), Joey Kelly (Ireland), Ross Antony (England), Ailton (Brazil), Giovanni Zarrella (Italy), Daniel Aminati (Ghana), Henry Leconte (France) and Harry Wijnvoord (Netherlands).

Looks like its VW 3 door small cars are being used by all (Polo, Golf etc), I am not sure of the make though. The cars gets thrashed like anything. Driving skill is not all that one needs to win here, lots of luck too. I will try to get more info and post if the thread gets approved.
