I respect your opinion but grip steering wheel tightly to make car go straight?
What about twisty corners of Monaco ?
How about shaving "Champions Wall" at Montreal trying deperatly not to touch wall.
Or how about going through Eau Rouge at Spa not knowing whether your cars wing will be held together?

F1 drivers have to do tons more work than just gripping steering wheel. They have to change break bias, various characteristics of the car, talk with the pit crew.

Don't get me wrong I am not saying F1 required more skill, you can see in previous pages I have said both require equal amount of skill. However skill type required is different for WRC & F1

the two forms of racing are worlds apart ... WRC drivers skill is almost unreal at times and on the surface ... i might be inclined toward WRC drivers skill ... but in F1 too ... at the end of the day ... the difference between the best and the rest could be as little as 0.1 seconds ... kudos to both ... they are equally skilled in their own right.

Cheers !!

Kimi obviously thinks WRC is harder. Hence, the statement that the WRC title would mean more to him than the F1 title.

WRC!! Real world roads, real drivers, real action!! Watching WRC on TV is 10 times more fun than watching F1.

Given the extreme demands for physical fitness of a driver, I will vote for the Formula1 driver. A Formula one driver can fit in any kind of race, but not the vice-versa. Few examples - Montoya making it an impressive debut in Nascar.

I wonder how the Six time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb will fare in Formula one..It will be an interesting deal to watch.

WRC Drivers! Agree with most of the posts on the previous 5 pages.
Though i love watching F1, watching WRC is much more fun.

In Rallying there is no celebrated wall or corner but lots and lots of walls and lots and lots of corners all unknown to the driver. F1 has simulators to help drivers know the circuit well before even they hit friday practise. So the walls and corners are already well known, one just has improvise the control to get around them. In WRC everything is unknown, so the driver has to control the unknown.

In WRC they do all these things also plus at the same time constantly listen to the co driver. F1 drivers do not always talk to pit crew. Only when required.

Pacenotes are made at a max speed of 80 kph, plus you have one chance to make a pace note for a stage. So you cannot redo the recce to find out if the corner was actually "60 degrees right" or "70 degrees right". Generally stage routes are not repeated. Even if they are the driver revisits it on the actual time of the stage flat out a year later. No practise possibilities.

I'm not trying to prove a point that F1 drivers are not talented, they are but they have a lot of help at hand to improve. Rallying is and always will be a more challenging form of motorsport for anyone.

F1 Vs WRC - No contest !

Everything in an F1 car is singular in it's purpose, & this emphasis on doing one thing & one thing only shows in it's performance numbers - 4G lateral acceleration, 5G under braking, engines that scream up to 18,000 RPM (& they're rev-limited), brakes that operate at 700 degrees C, tires that operate at 100 degrees C... There's nothing "stock" about an F1 car. It goes without saying that the drivers who tame these beasts are a breed apart.

Sure WRC looks more hairy on TV, but I would say it's because F1 drivers make driving their cars look so easy. Not only must F1 drivers push their cars to the limit, but they must also think & make strategic decisions while doing so (Mika's move on Schumi during the 2000 Belgian GP being a case in point). Even getting an F1 car around a track would be a monumental, if not impossible task, for most drivers.

It's for a reason that F1 drivers retire to lower formulas (& most end up doing well to boot). I doubt any sane F1 driver would think a switch from F1 to WRC to be a great career move. On that note, Kimi's comment sounds like a bad case of sour grapes to me.

I would say both F1 and WRC drivers are talented in their own right. F1 is all about split-second decisions at 300 kmph, but a WRC driver makes split-second decisions while his life and the co-driver's life is on the line, which is extremely entertaining.

I am a great fan of Group B rallying of the 80s and I consider these cars and drivers as the greatest ever. But formula 1 of that era too was simply superb, with turbocharged engines and less regulations, it was almost like WRC on the tracks.

Overall, I love motorsports of any kind and have voted for "both are equal".

Unfortunately, WRC is not very TV friendly thanks to the fact that it stretches over large distances while an F1 track is only a few kilometres allowing for good camera work. Plus, the event lasts for three days while F1 lasts a couple of hours.

Aye, the Group-B rally cars were the closest WRC got to the credo of single-mindedness adhered to in F1. Unfortunately, going down that road got a lot of people killed & they backed off.

Sometimes, while watching WRC, I think the drivers must be truly bonkers driving the way they do. But then I remind myself that F1 drivers have to drive twice as fast, & overtake too !

F1 drivers experience G-limits meant for fighter pilots & aerobatic pilots, it's to their credit that they make it look so easy - to the point that every one of us thinks we can do a better job !
