Introducing myself!

Hi buddies.

Let me introduce myself. I am Anand Singh (marinerandy), hailing from Lucknow but settled in Bengaluru since 2015. Was not born petrol headed but after 12 years into my existence I became one.

I am a mariner by profession and am sailing as chief engineer on container vessels presently.

Since by profession I am used to deal in high powered IC engines (50,000 bhp and above), I just got fascinated by the reciprocating motion of the pistons and the sheer power they produce. This compassion continued to dominate in my character on land in anything moving on two or four round solids attached to an axel.

First 4 wheels which I knew was Ambassador, in which I rode 1st time and subsequently 7 more, (1981 ~ 1988) years after my birth. This "HARA GHODA" (named by me as a toddler) was just a means of travelling and never fascinated me.

It was in the year 1993 when my mother tried her hand on driving on my father's soft top official gypsy and I ended up learning to ride this mechanical horse instead, I became a hard-core addict of driving.

Vehicles owned by me and father:

1)- Lambretta (1980) (Father)
2)- Vijay Super (1983) (Father)
3)- Premier Padmini/2nd hand (1986) (Father)
4)- Bajaj Chetak (1989) (Father)
5)- Maruti 800 non A/C (1990) (Father)
6) Hero Puch Shakti 3G (1996) (Gifted to me by father)
7)- Bajaj Bravo (1998) (gifted to me by father)
8)-Maruri zen (2001) (Father)
7)- Wagon-R Vxi (2005) (Father)
10)- Ford Figo Tdci titanium (May, 2010) (Me)
11)- Xuv 5oo w6 (2013) (Lucky 10,000 early customer/me)
12)- Bajaj Avenger (2014) (Me)
13)- WV Ameo (2015) (gifred to wife/ for completing her Phd)
14)- S-cross Alpha 1.3 (2017) (Me)
15)- Hyundai Creta Diesel Sx(o) (2020) (bought for father by me after his retirement.)
16)- BMW X3 30i M SPORT (2022) (presently booked by me and wife jointly).

This list doesn't include the official vehicles of my father on which, post 1993 I cleared my doubts concerned to driving and gained confidence

So this was my life journey with brief insight of my reson to join this forum and enjoy the sheer pleasure of fellow driving enthusiasts.

Mostly on this forum we see the pics of vehicles, but I will part with pictorial representation of me in my profession.

re: Introducing myself!

Lovely comprehensive introduction. Welcome to T-BHP. Please put a thread on the big ships you sail and the very big engines you run & maintain with lots of photos.

re: Introducing myself!

Thank you very much sir. Will definitely do my bit in putting up the information about big marine engines on this platform.

re: Introducing myself!

Welcome to the forum. Great introduction

Do share your experience on the vessels with truckload of photos please. Love ships and sea/ocean

Noob question: How come you are settled in Bangalore if your job is mostly on or around ships? AFAIK there isn’t any port there?

That must be his home base. He must be taking a flight to the port at which he joins his tour at sea. The port where he joins is likely to be different each time and could be anywhere in the world. There is no reason for him to live in an Indian port city.

Yes. That's right. Actually my wife is a chip (analog) designer. Her base is in Bangalore. AFAIAC I fly to the country where the ship is calling the port for cargo amd my counterpart is going on vacation. Same happens when I am going on vacation. Just the situation reverses. I fly back to Banglore from the port (anywhere in the world) when I am supposed to go on vacation.

Welcome to TBHP @marinerandy.

I notice that marine professionals are quite the number in TBHP. I guess that having big engines as only company during long sojourns away from home make them more susceptible to becoming a petrol-head.

I notice the opposite happening with IT professionals. Most of them that I know hate the laptop after office hours.

I have no hint how the IT professionals feel about their job!! But being a marine engineer, definitely there is always a spark in the eyes when joining a ship.
BTW I am sailing on state of the art, camless engines. Without IT professionals it wouldn't have been possible to design these engines! The programing code required for timing of injection and valve operations is all due to some nerd behind the keyboard.
