First Post and First Car!

Hi Everyone

Been waiting for a month to write about my car searching, buying and driving experience. Last week received my membership and here we go.

Little about Myself
I'm now a middle aged, married, father of one kid. Work in Government sector. Had couple of cars in the family - WagonR and then Brezza. The latter is now being used by my younger brother. Last year I got a used Ignis for my parents for their local commute, as they don't stay with us.

Since all the last three cars were Maruti Suzuki, which as a brand I respect and adore, for my first personal car I wanted some other brand.

Car Searching Experience
I watched Youtube review videos and read TeamBHP posts. Nowadays the customer is spoilt for choices. I had made up my mind on buying a sedan or a hatchback. Not that I don't like SUV category. But being a sedate driver, wanted a touch of class and elegance in the car looks. Driving and performance pleasure also expected. Had seriously considered VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai i20 N line, Honda City. Well all of them ticked the right boxes for me, I was skeptical about VW, Skoda which for me would have been a big jump from Japanese engineering and reliability to German.

Hyundai i20 N line also had good reviews, demanding a price premium.

Finally after going through lot of reviews, zoomed in on Honda City. Went to the showroom on one fine Sunday with family. Took the test drive. It was just as I had anticipated and heard of. Drive was very comfy, engine was smooth and responsive, suspension was great, got to experience ADAS too for the first time. Just felt one thing in the back seat. The foot rest platform was slightly raised at an angle not very much to my liking. However that was not a deal breaker. Will be sharing a detailed review later.

The showroom executives were friendly and professional. My wife was inclined towards the Elevate. But then convinced her to go for the City itself.

That was the only test drive I did and booked the vehicle immediately - top end ZX MT Platinum white. I told them I will be taking the delivery on Deepavali around November 10th, to which they said no problem. Got a discount of Rs 50K.

The car arrived much before the delivery date. They asked to make the full payment by month end as they need to close their monthly accounts. I complied. Going by the customer support and professional attitude of the showroom guys, I didn't need the feel to do PDI and then the remaining payment. I trusted them and told them to do the PDI themselves.

On the delivery day, reached the showroom on time. The car was ready. After the pooja and formalities, took the car out. The showroom executive asked me if I wanted demo of ADAS. I said I will read up, not an issue.

Immediately left for home which was some 130KMs from the city where I bought the car and wanted tpo reach home before it got dark. After reaching home, did pooja again, showed it to some colleagues and friends.

Took the vehicle out on short drives just to work up the engine. Had heard about break in period of car - not to rev till the redline, not to break hard etc. Ensured that the car didn't rev above 3000RPM. The car had done 500KMs before I took her on a long high way drive to my wife's native on Pune Bangalore Highway. That was when I could stretch the legs of the car. The driving pleasure was just great. Reaching 80-100KMPH was that easy. Had tried the DAS features too. It was in deed Driver assistancve system, it nudged the driver where needed, not intrusive. On may one occasion, the CMBS activated for a fraction of second. Also a light rattling noise coming from left side of driver aroung B pillar on rough road patches was experienced. On the way home, I took it to showroom to get it checked. Since there were so many deliveries lined up that day, the showroom guys were too busy and couldn't give much time to check the issue. Told them to do detailed inspection during the first service.

Apart from that everything was great. Drove 1000KMs within a week of taking delivery of the car. The experience has been positive overall. Looking forward to more miles and memories.
