Hello Everyone!

Reading the introduction section left me with an impression that it's going to be a hard experience for me to get a membership, but oh well, made it on my first try. Feels weird now

Greetings! My name is Veer and I'm from the notorious "Zilla Ghaziabad".
I'll be of driving age next year and until then, my mind and soul is dedicated to cracking the Law Entrance Examination. My interest in automobiles was galvanised by my father's 4th gen Honda City. The sleeks, the curves, the refined and yet grunty 1.5L iVTEC.... oh lord. As you might've noticed, my name bestows justice to the insane love I possess for Honda mass-market automobiles. There's something about that design language and the way the ergonomics of these cars were calibrated which just keeps me hooked on, and with this, you probably can also percept my reception towards the company's abysmal state these days. It is my dream to own a Honda Sedan some day - to my demise, both the constituting factors of this little imagination are on a pathetic decline. (Read: Honda and the Sedan segment).

But enough with the Honda now. I take keen interest in politics and issues surrounding India's legal jurisprudence (hence the law path I've chosen for myself). I'm also a big time rail-fan, and also sometimes watch plane spotting videos (see a common factor?).

I'm planning to fix up my father's dilapidated Honda as I enter college. This auspicious forum, which has portentously transmuted the way I see automobiles , will be instrumental in how I approach this challenge.

Until then, however, I hope to offer my rants over the quotidian happenings relevant to this forum and share a certain few of my experiences as I transcend this insane journey of learning and interaction.

It's hard to find genuine car enthusiasts (especially in my generation) who take a sagacious interest in this field. I hope to make some new friends here.

Good Night!

Re: Hello Everyone!

Hello there, TheHondaLover! Welcome to Team-BHP from another teenager of driving age here.

I'm a fellow owner of the City (albeit the 5th gen) and I resonate with your views on it. For a car that once used to rule the C-segment sedans, it's sad to see the City hovering around the bottom of the segment today (full credit to Honda India management team for that ). Anyway, hoping to see an ownership review of your car soon!

By the way, your intro reminds me of Shashi Tharoor thanks to the extravagant words peppered in between. I feel floccinaucinihilipilificated

See you around buddy!

Hello CentreOfGravity. Glad to meet you. You're a lucky guy for sure, 5th-gen is a majestic car. My mind goes absolutely bonkers whenever I see one in silver or... the Obsidian Blue Pearl (my heart melts over seeing that ONE color, not even joking)

The Honda management is just a testimony to how lazy and profit-pandering the Japanese can get. Check out the Honda Elevate, Creta will offer much more gimmicks for the same price, yet I see one on the roads most of the time I get out... more than a Seltos. It tells you how Indians are still faithful to Honda and the good cars it will offer to us YET it's the lethargic response from Honda which makes this equation disproportionate.

As for the "Tharoor language", part of my exam preparation involves being able to understand what Mr. Tharoor says on a daily basis without having to consult Google (or worse: ChatGPT)

This is undeniable sadly. Especially because cars aren't the kind of status symbols they once used to be, and the availability of cabs and other public transport has made the need and urge of learning to drive a car significantly redundant

Re: Hello Everyone!

Hello Honda lover.

We both are of a similar age (I am older by a few months) and as the universe would have it, our fascination is with the same car, the mighty Honda City.

However, my perspicacity is with the 3rd gen Honda City and not the 4th gen. I remember asking my father to pursue another Honda city, and not the Duster in 2014 because of how much I loved that car. I got into T-BHP after writing about that car

Extremely disappointing to see such a car go from a smooth talking/can impress anyone in a party person to a phlegmatic idiot that sits in the corner. How incompetent can Honda executives be.

Honda sorrows aside, hope you have a good time on T-BHP and wishing you all the best for other future endeavours too!!

Bye!

Hey Honda Lover,

I'm a couple of years younger than you, but I can relate to your love for Honda, especially your dad's Honda City. We also had a 4th gen Honda City before bringing home our Skoda Slavia.

The Honda City was the car that made me fall in love with cars. I'm a big fan, so much so that I even mentioned it as my favourite car during the Team-BHP registration .

Lately, though, the City doesn’t feel as special. It’s still a good car, but it’s lost the magic the older generations had. I think Honda’s management isn’t interested on connecting with customers anymore, and unfortunately, the Elevate seems to be headed down the same path.

BTW, your writing style is really polished . I’m looking forward to reading your ownership review on the 4th gen City.

Hope you enjoy your time on Team-BHP. See you around, bud!

Re: Hello Everyone!

Hello there HondaLover. Let me start by introducing myself.

Hi, I'm nova (gamertag), I'm part of the same category as the rest of people here - waiting to get our hands on the license group..

I'm 17, turning 18 this year, waiting on 2 things - college to open anytime soon, and getting my hands on my driving license! I'm an engineering student, with a passion for cars (obviously), tech nerd and UI/UX Design!

My dad drives an old 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT and man that car doesn't disappoint as per 2024 standards!! I've been procrastinating on whether to start an ownership review on that or not!

Hondas have a special spot in my heart, no matter what. But there is one car I love more than the City, sorry to say this guys, but it's the Virtus!!

Looking forward to hearing more from you and about your Honda!

Hello Nova! Saw this very very late but anyways..

Your 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT sounds like a blessing, a car delivering almost 20 years later in itself is bewildering. Probably an institution of your family at this point I've never seen or heard about one, so it'll be interesting to learn about it. Waiting for your review eagerly.

Oh don't worry about it. If not for this weird obsession of mine, I would've ran after a Virtus GT too. I saw a virtus GT in it's Lava Blue colour (probably the only one in my town) and...IT WAS MIND BLOWING, looked great. I have seen a lot of virtus on the streets, it's was the colour of this one which got me hooked on.

I couldn't take a picture as I was in an E-rickshaw headed home from School The 1.5L turbo is a capable engine all can admire.

As for the Honda getting fixed, I'll do something once I'm done with the tweaks.. till then, see ya! Have a nice one.

Hello The Chicken Nugget! Is that your real name?

Jokes aside, I too, am an admirer of the 3rd generation. I've always liked the way it looked, that bold planted stance of a late 2000s Sedan meant for the executives. The engine had a grunt and delivered power at City speeds with ease. Unfortunately this Honda was short-lived as by the time 2014 came, the focus was now on refinement and prestige (hence the sunroof and interior calibration on the Indian spec variants which are VERY different than what the ASEAN versions got). I still wish they retained the ergonomics of the 3rd gen.

Lucky guy. I wonder that if things went towards the Renault that month, maybe you would've been a duster fan today... who knows..

While the most common occurrences in my area are that of the wheel caps variants (metonomy), the top variants have a special place in my heart. Why? And it's a stupid reason. The top spec automatic variant came with these shiny multi-spoke alloys and ORVM integrated turn signals.. they just changed the way it looks on the roads completely. It's something you can sit and admire. Unfortunately that variant is a rare one for me.

Anyhow, sorry for my blabbering, it's what I call the.. "Honda Talk"

Pleasure to meet you, and thank you for your benevolent regards. Have you posted an ownership review of your 3rd gen? Would love to see it!

Hello Motordev! Yeah we all miss the old magic, let's see how it goes... I'm not sure how long they can keep sustaining their presence with exports.

About my writing style, it's perhaps one of the most enduring comments I've been passed on. It's the Legal talk buddy
And this is me being INFORMAL

But yeah anyways, thanks. Slavia is a great car, congratulations. Would love to see your ownership review some day, good to see another of my age pack here. Have a nice one.

Re: Hello Everyone!

Hi,

Nice to see another 2014 Honda City owner. BTW, I too have a 2014 Honda City, albeit iDTEC V MT, since our running was quite high when we bought it but got reduced off late due to me moving to USA for pursuing my Masters last year and my mom no longer doing commutes to her office though we still own this car. Bought this car used in 2017 as a second car since our previous OG Innova felt too big to drive in city traffic and was a fuel guzzler too. Bought this when the odo was at 35k Kms and till date, the car has run close to 190k Kms (189k Kms to be precise), where I clocked more than 150k Kms in 7 years of ownership. Moreover, this car is barely driven on highways since we have Innova Hycross Hybrid for other purposes.

Despite owning Hycross, my folks still love driving this car due to the FE it offers and easy to drive nature. Also, rear seat space is the crucial thing why my folks love City.

After driving mine, my cousin too bought a used City iDTEC, albeit facelift variant, with all bells and whistles, last year. It's a 2017 one and he bought it when the odo was at 72k Kms and now the odo has crossed 110k Kms.

During my recent stint in India, I've clocked 6k Kms with my City and recently, got the timing kit replaced along with EGR cleaning and clutch replacement as well, which costed me close to a lac and got it done at Honda ASC itself.

Apart from that, I got the suspension overhauled, got the whole car repainted as well in last 2 years with the intention of keeping it for another 2 years and sell it off for an EV or Petrol.

I agree with you regarding Honda's lazy attitude towards Indian market. Not even a single Honda car impressed me apart from the City though Elevate felt decent in terms of driver seat height but still I'd get the City any day due to rear seat comfort and space or stretch the budget a bit and get Creta/Seltos.

Due to Honda's lazy attitude towards Indian market, I might have to move out of Honda and look for other brands though I still love having another Honda City as the replacement for my present 4th gen City, but in CVT guise this time as our usage is less.

And, yes, 3rd gen City is my favourite too and one of my relatives had owned one before replacing it with 4th gen City CVT in 2019.

I don't remember much about its power delivery and driving dynamics (I was 3 when we got it and 7 when we sold it). But, the executive aspect and a few other miscellaneous qualities of that car have been ingrained into my brain.

The ride (as a passenger) was fantastic. The cabin wasn't talkative. It was silent, only the sweet engine whine used to make its way into it. Ride quality was fantastic, it never swayed around (general characteristic of a sedan, but City does it better). The A/C is probably the best I have ever experienced my entire life.

In terms of speed it was a huge upgrade from our dinky Santro, I remember that well. Felt like I was being thrown around.

I don't have a lot of "mechanical" memories but, lot of emotional memories with it.

Also, it was our first fancy car with a lot of "goodies" (lots of knobs and buttons to play around with).

I think you misinterpreted my sentence (I am to blame, the sentence was not clear as I would've preferred it).

I wanted my father to buy a City, but we bought a Duster. I am not a fanboy of that car. It was nice, but that's it. It looked extremely cool though, we had an Adventure model in green with smoked headlamps, absolute looker of a car. I still see that car once in a while.

Our car was the top end V variant (in 2010). The City has a design that has been aging gracefully, even the current gen looks fantastic and will sell well (too bad Honda is run by hamster brained people).

I think ZX was introduced with the 4th gen city, since sunroof was a bigger selling point for that car and was also the biggest differentiation factor.

They introduced sunroof for the 3rd gen City too, but only for a few months.
Infact, it got a touchscreen and reverse camera. That car looks amazing, I prefer the thick halogen side indicators to the slim ones, they have more personality.

The top end wheels look fantastic. I love the was they look. Simple 5-spoke, no nonsense.

It is not blabbering if it is a car. One of the best aspects of T-BHP is that you can yap about cars how much every you want and no one will complain (as long as it has subject )

We sold the car in 2014. We have a different car now. I would love it if we purchased the City again . Absolutely love that car.

You should write one for your car.

I think I yapped too much now.
