Hello from Swaroop

Hello to team-bhpians,

Registering in a site to which I have been frequenting for a while now (and that is quite a while!), is not exactly a New Year resolution, but I hope that it does not flicker out like any other resolution ( exercise, quit smoking, blah blah)

I am your so typical IT guy with a passion for driving & traveling (do I hear “Aw come on, here comes one more!”?). Not sure what made me think that I can contribute to this amazing repository of information on automobiles, but I guess it has more to do with the honor of being a part of this community of car enthusiasts.

I started driving (or rather crashing) when I was 8 years old (no sermons on underage driving, please) . It started with me sneaking the keys of my grandfather’s Premier Padmini, twisting the ignition with the car in gear and the car lurching forward to test the solidarity of our beloved banyan tree (it was parked underneath). Good thing that the tree was rock solid and the car was left nursing a crumpled nose (bumper). After that incident, extra caution from parents ensured that I had no access to keys of anything that moves on two or four wheels (apart from bicycles!) till I turned 18 and got a driving license. From then, I have progressed from bikes to cars (own a Swift ZXI now) driving in India and abroad. A busy work life now dictates terms on how much I can do what I love (driving) quite opposed to loving what I do (crawling in Mumbai traffic).

Hope to learn from experts here and two pence anything when relevant.

That's a nice intro, Swaroop. Welcome!

The tree incident reminds me of an old railway crossing ad. The guy in the photo says: "Never try to beat a train at a railway crossing. There can only be one loser". :-)
