3 years & 31,500 kms with a Chevy U-VA 1.2 LS

Hello Everyone ,

My Car:- Aveo U-VA 1.2 LS (Color - Rain Forest Green)

While writing a review for my U-VA, its worth mentioning the UVA punch line " Bada Dil Baddi Car".

This is my first post in Team-Bhp about my car. I found very few updates or review of U-VA on this forum .

The car was bought in Oct 2009 with a “3 year Chevrolet promise" at no extra cost. Till now, it has moved 31500 KMs.

I just simply love this car, with the stellar points being:
1. Mileage:
City: 12 KMPL with AC on 50% of time.
Highway: 17 KMPL with AC 90% on.
2. Highest ground clearance (188 mm) along all hatch.
3. SPACIOUS... really spacious car (Considering i20/Visata/Swift/Polo/Fabia).
4. It has good legroom both in the front and rear.
5. Driving position is very comfortable with adequate thigh and back support. Though it doesn't have the seat height adjustment, even with the steering tilted to the lower level & pushing back the driver seat (I'm 5'11”), its easy to get in & sit in rear seats.
6. Super silent car with a refined Chevy motor. Chevrolet is a specialist in this respect & engine is very smooth true to its name.
7. Cabin gives you an airy feel.
8. Air-condition is the best part, it cools the cabin quickly even in hot summers.
9. Build quality is good.
10. I like the front look very much. The striped side indicator has a sexy look.
11. Dual Glove box is of a very good build, and the wide dashboard is pretty usable.

The feel...
The engine does give the impression of being smooth without being unduly straining even in hot and clammy weather conditions. It is responsive and is easy to drive in city. Due to very less noise, in city traffic like Kolkata its very difficult to understand whether the engine is running or not. Initially, once I drove at speeds around 130 & found the engine sounding noisy. Checked with 'Dhulichand' service team following which the uncomfortable feel with the engine was history.
Mileage is good in an average of 12 to 14 with 50% A/C on. Out of 31500KM 20% is highway drive & we found the millage is pretty good with 90% AC on.

Servicing...
Dhulichand motors: Gives me excellent service all time. I took the 3 years warranty & other than polishing & cleaning I have not had the opportunity of spending a frightful load of money. Once a taxi rear-ended my car wrecking the bumper. As this was insured, the bumper change did not cost me. While it was in the workshop, I had a touch-up paint done of the left passenger door & back side body to take care of a few scratches.

Some common concerns - (I found this with all other U-VA owner in this forum)
1. Not so smooth reverse gear shift. Initially it was disturbing. As days went by, I grew accustomed and now it hardly is a concern.
2. Instrument panel is not very attractive compared to an i20, Swift or the Getz.
3. The dashboard finish is too glossy. Light reflects off the polish. While not much of a concern, it would have been better if the finish had been matte.
4. Slightly sluggish pick-up with AC on.
5. Interior is bit boring with the dull and grey plastics.

But the most uncomfortable part I felt after owing this for 3 years is, after I read an article few days ago which reported that General Motors is thinking of discontinuing the Aveo series
Friends need few confirmation on this

Hey, congrats on your happy 31.5K. What made you choose this car over it's competitors?

Does it have the same engine as the Beat?

Regarding discontinuation, unfortunately yes. It'll be phased out once, the Sail is ready, I Suppose. I personally think, Chevy India must have given this car a true MJD1.3. That along with the 3yr CPCO, Spacious interior, VFM Pricing will have worked wonders.

Please do post some pictures. Thanks!

When I took it on 2009 I was undecided between Fabia, U-VA & Swift. Swift had a waiting period of 6months then; Fabia was bit expensive, & U-VA offered a great driving comfort with silent & spacious cabin space. I wanted to take the car during the festive season, so took the decision.

I believe not. U-VA has 8V-SOHC engine & Beat has S-TEC II 16V DOHC engine.

Thanks for the long term ownership review, this is a car which has been a victim of failed marketing and negative comments by people who have not driven the vehicle. I intended many times to buy this car but somehow did not but it is definitely better than its competitors. It has 8V SOHC engine with max power of 75ps but sure it is not an underpowered vehicle as many feel.
