Re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

I’ve got a Etios Liva GD which is about 9 years old and have driven 1.9 Lakh km till date and still going strong. The only big mechanical expense it has had was clutch plate being replaced around 1.2 lakh km mark

Such a fuss free vehicle. It’s been a great ownership experience for us to the point where we bought Innova without even test driving it.

I have the same car and mine is 10+ years old. We have driven around 1.25L kms and so far none of the parts, including clutch, has been replaced. And I do not have any plans to sell it.

Toyota Etios was a wonderful car. Wonderful comfortable seats, gracious bootspace and amazing workhorse.

I wonder if the Maruti rebadged Toyotas like Glanza and Urban Cruiser also carry the "Fill it, Shut it, Forget it" motto with them??

I have a 7 years old Etios , with 1.1L on the odo. Just as most of them have reported , it's been a fuss free ownership so far. Only the brake pads needing replacement so far.at 75K. The suspension bushing are wearing out which is expected for the wear and tear.it has taken. I have been spoilt with its reliability and hard to find a replacement.

Just fyi, if you're ok with some diy, the wiper can be replaced as just the rubber alone. Costs 200 or so from boodmo for the genuine toyota replacement

Isn't it a good practice to replace ignition coils along with the replacement of all 4 spark plugs. As part of preventive maintenance , I believe , Ignition coil replacement is called for when its time to replace spark plugs.

Amazingly done!
I too have a Silver Etios which is very dear to heart & extremely light on the pocket!
Just works.

A suggestion - I've recently purchased Black (with chrome inset) bumper guards and found the look to be quite good, compared to white/Gray bumper guards.
FYI!

My deep respect for you and your Etios considering the fact that :

1. Apart from scheduled maintenance, minor damages and wear and tear of parts, there hasn't been any other consumption in ownership cost.

2. Considering you have done pan India travel with this car in varied geographies, credit goes to you for being a great responsible owner+driver using the car to its full potential. And credit goes to your car for showing unfathomable reliability.

P. S. :- I have purchased my used Toyota Etios car based on your Etios thread recording all experiences+costs since 2010

Re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

Hi ,

Recently I had been to Chennai for work and had hired a cab which was one good looking Etios. One can see hundreds of Etios taxis around in Chennai all the time. I soon found out the reason behind that.

I did a return trip to Pondi by this car. As any car loving person does , I started chatting with the driver during the journey about the car and it's performance. It was a well maintained 9 years old diesel vehicle with 4,51,000 kms on Odo ,yes you all read right Driver said his boss , the owner of the car rental company services the vehicle only at authorised service station and never trusts any local mechanic for any repair or service. It was indeed in a fantastic condition and showed no sign of age. The diesel Engine noise was not loud at all even at high rpm and was in fact quite responsive , seats were nice & comfy , even the steering wheel / gear knob plastic was intact , door handles , dashboard plastic were all looking good with minimal wear / tear. The driver was so confident about Toyota quality that he said the car be easily used further for another lakhs of kms. The driver ( who has worked in same company since last 10 years ) was not aware of the any kind of major repairs that the car may have undergone , but said that it never broke down. I was awestruck. Keep it Toyota India.

Fantastic to read these reassuring details about the Etios.

My Etios Platinum Petrol bought in 2016 is also pretty much hassle free (except a rat eaten wire harness).

I have since moved to the Himalayas and recently drove it through Jalori pass in Himachal without any trouble. But I wish there was just a little more GC.

Is there anyway to lift the Etios a bit?

Thanks

I upgraded the tyres from 175/65/R14 to 185/65/R14, this roughly gave me an increase of 6.5 mm in GC.

Since yours is a 2016 model, the default tyre size should be 185/60/R15.
If you upgrade to 195/60/R15, this will roughly give you an increase of 6mm in GC.

Just check the wheel-well space after upgrading the tyres by turning the steering from end to end, whether the tyres are touching anywhere or not. If it touches, you need to go back to the default size.

With this increased GC, you can install Rogerab, which will further reduce the suspension travel & make the ride a bit stiffer, so the car will bottom out even lesser.

These two are the most easy upgrades you can go for tackling the bad roads.
