re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

Congratulations Sir on completing 10 years with the car. It's been a joy to read through your journey. Coincidentally even my Etios(Petrol) has completed 10 years today and I find your experience very relatable.

Also, it's quite fitting that my first post happens to be on one of my favourite threads.

re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

10 years/110,000 km service update at 104,000 km mark

The following works were done during this service-

The below mentioned list for this service may sound a bit odd, as few parts were replaced even though they had some life left. Actually the car completed a decade with us on 15th June. So as token of appreciation, I wanted to have all the mechanical and essential parts in topmost shape.

110,000 km general service which included an overall checkup with engine oil and oil filter replacement.

Front shockabsorbers replaced (both sides). There were no leaks or sound, but I missed the firmness, hence changed. According to Toyota, it was good to go for at-least another 10,000 km.

Lower arm (both sides). This could have been changed after running for another 10,000 km too.

Wheel alignment and balancing.

Front brake pads. It had life left for another 5,000 km.

Front brake discs.

Rear brake shoes.

Spare wheel retaining screw.

Optional A/C vents cleaning and few greasing.

Total bill- Rs 32,186

Attaching the cost details-

Congrats Samba sir, for keeping the Etios as new as it was on the day you brought it home and for cataloging all the events related to it.

Your thread on the Etios has been an all time favorite of mine. I used to search for it every now and then (Coincidentally, my native place also has a 2011 Etios 1.5, the first batch with the soft rear suspension, it was your thread that gave me the idea of changing it with the facelift Etios's suspension) .

Please keep on updating the thread in the future.

Re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

Odo reads 105,000 km

All good!

Off-late, I find the headlight illumination to be a tad less. The seal-beams are 10 years old now.
Before replacing the headlights, will replace the bulbs and see first. The current set of bulbs are now nearing 5 years.

Ordered two Osram H4 90/100 bulbs. The relay is fine. So will just change the bulbs and see if their is any improvement or not.

Changed the bulbs to Osram 90/100 and the road was still not properly illuminated.
Later I figured out, the adjuster of the left headlight was not working and the light was not properly focused. So took some time and I adjusted the seal beam level by pressing it from behind. After the adjustment, drove for 300-400 km, it's holding up fine. The light is sufficient now.
As of now changing of the headlights are not required.

Sharing the pics of the light with the new bulbs and after adjusting the headlight levels.

Thanks for the nice read, with all details and pictures.

Travelled in Etios quite a few times, felt very comfortable. The drivers too had good things to say about the handling and maintenance aspects.

In a similar manner, I have also maintained all details and cost for the ASC visits for my car, now nearly 7 years young.

Re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

Odo is about to touch the 107,000 km mark

Not a very good start for the year 2022 for my Etios.
Rats managed to chew few wires of an otherwise trouble free car.

Earlier this month, when I pulled the wiper stalk to clean the windshield, no water came out of the windshield washer sprayer. I casually thought, I might have forgot to fill the reservoir.

Went home, opened the bonnet and I was shocked to see this-

The wiper washer fluid pipe has been cut.

Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!-img_1664.jpg

The sparkplug cable cover has been cut, the wires are exposed now.

Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!-img_1665.jpg

The headlight relay wire has been cut, plus the rats chewed the cap of the wiper washer fluid reservoir. The left indicator placed on the fender was not working.

Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!-img_1666.jpg

The very next day, I took my car to Saini Toyota.

Thankfully, they told me they will repair this. Else the whole wiring kit which comes with the engine is very costly. The mechanics checked thoroughly and confirmed that, mostly the wires were intact, the wire covers have been chewed.

So they took the car inside and repaired the damage thoroughly with insulation tape.

Damage to pocket- Rs 1,000

Pics post repair. Now everything is working perfectly.

Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!-img_1677.jpg

Came home and placed camphor on the engine bay and sprayed rat repellent on all the wires. Sealed all the small entry exit places for rats.

Now am regularly keeping an eye on the car. Hope I manged to keep the rats away for the time being.

I am wondering why you did not get the engine bay washed post the repair? Rats mark their territory with droppings and urine I guess which would have been washed away. The rat repellant would have been more effective IMHO. What brand are you using?

Do keep us posted of the effectiveness of this. My cars have been victims of viscious rat attacks. Thank your stars it was just 1k. I spend 2k every 4-5 months on a rat spray (Protecting cars from the RAT menace - Autoshine Rat Spray (Mumbai)). These days I am pouring diluted dettol/phenoyl on the bottom engine guard (not on the engine parts) so that the smell deters the rats from not coming back.

No idea if this is common everywhere but rats and cats somehow co-exist pretty well, especially when you have someone feeding the cats.

My parents house - they feed ~6 cats. 1 of them is a fully indoor cat, 2 of them live in and out of the house (50-50) and the other 3 are strays that stay around the house/street all day. Yet, we have had the wiring of the car chewed and it's a constant issue that hasn't gone away over a year.

Re: Toyota Etios 1.5L Petrol : An owner's point of view. EDIT: 10+ years and 100,000+ kms up!

Etios completes 11 years with 108,000 km on the odo

Today on it's 11th birthday, there is nothing substantial to update!
The fill it, shut it & forget it saga continues.

The car still retains it's original paint except the front left fender, infact the mud flaps and the wheel caps are still stock!

Before the Ladakh trip, I was told by few, if I take the Etios to Ladakh, I have to keep the front bumper at Ladakh and return!
Looks like the car took it so seriously, that it even refused to let go a single mudflap or even a wheel cap!

The first pic which I clicked of our Etios within few days of purchasing the car, with the latest pic, which I clicked yesterday!
