Just Received the Leather Re Coloring kit yesterday.
Just to test for the shade, i applied a bit of it on the armrest(Used for 18 years) of my 124. Used cotton, and results are excellent; the top portion in the picture is where i applied the color, and it used to look as in the lower area in the picture; very happy with the product, just missed on the filler(due to my silly mistake) to repair a small tear due to wear. Now for some pictures.

Still awaiting some stuff for complete leather restoration.
With nothing to do on a Sunday, i thought of playing around a bit, and went in to fix the armrest. Here are the results. This is not final finish though.

Long time no update.
Car has been running fine, without any niggles(***touchwood***)
Got the alignment done and while the car was on lift, noticed a few drops of coolant, could not find a leak anywhere, and on close inspection found out that bottle had cracked. Picked up a new coolant bottle yesterday, will get it installed over the next weekend.

Meanwhile i have also restored the existing leather seats.
List of items used for restoration.
1)Leather Cleaner
2)Leather dye
3)Leather protection cream.

Here a few pictures, before and after.

On the day of purchase, while driving her back home, i had discovered that there was an issue with the AC, it would chill like crazy and then air used to stop flowing from the Vents. On turning off the AC for a few minutes and turning it on,it would start working again, only to stop blowing air after a few minutes.

As i got to know about the car,i found out that compressor was working at full blast and not cutting out, which was causing ice formation on AC pipes; all this was due to absence of the AC kick down relay(KLIMA relay). Looked around for months, and stumbled upon a New one KAE brand last week(dont know as to why this part is so hard to source).Sorted the wiring and installed the relay.
AC is now back to factory spec, and all functions working normally as expected.

Hello,

I have been following your thread since you got the car. Kudos to your efforts on keeping it so well. 👍
These kind of cars truly deserve owners like you. :)

Thanks a lot Asit.
Over the months i have realized that you need a lot of patience to deal with it.
Mechanically its reliable, but being an 18 year old car, few niggles are expected. The fuel Gauge gave up last weekend, while driving.
Its a Bad fuel sender, on inspection it was found that it was already broken and held together by threads to make it work.

I've experienced the same issue. My fuel sensor died late last year. Hopefully, it shouldn't be too hard to replace.

Nope,it's just a ten minutes job and can be accessed from the boot.

Got a replacement fuel sender yesterday.
Replacing it was a 5 minutes job.
Dancing fuel needle issue also got fixed with it.

Wow! Brilliant job on the seat restoration. Never knew something like this was even possible, except I've heard of the shop 'Colour Glo' who does the same. Thanks for the updates.

Mind sharing the cost of those items as well? Just curious.

Amazingly original car and beautiful to see the progressive restoration carried out time to time. :)

I restored a W124 just last week, though the interiors need new leather, we delivered the car and might do up the leather interiors in coming months.

Wow! That's an absolute timeless beauty. Somehow they don't do these tough Mercedes cars anymore. Today's Mercs only seem to have more and more power, but are too much 'cosmetic' looking. Everything doesn't reek of that quality; that somehow seems to be present in these older cars.

Anyways congrats with your new found Mercedes. I think this car will serve you well over for many more years to come, with only routine maintenance. The blue shade is beautiful as well, not seen too many of these cars in the blue shade. All the best.

Long time no update, car hasn't done more than 500 kms in last 3 months, and has been going on fine. The non OEM el cheapo steering wheel cover always looked like an eyesore to me whenever i drove it. Took out the steering myself and drove 200kms to NCR and got it wrapped like it came from the factory, looks and feels much better now.
