Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.6L | Addictiveness Personified | EDIT: 110,000 km up!

An important update on ownership and purchase of New Car

So at the begining of this year, I started to think of getting a new car. The only excuse for an upgrade was the need for automatic transmission. If my Scross 1.6 had the automatic transmission, i probably would not have
bothered with an upgrade as the car was kept in excellent condition and I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every drive in it. Please note I never saw a single check engine light error or any other error for that matter in the last 8 years when I had the car and it was finally sold on 9th September 2024 after driving for 110916 KMs. Wishing the new owner a troublefree ownership and only good memories with the car ahead

Sorry about the delay Rahul, but I hope the below information helps.

My requirement was very simple - it has to be an automatic and should be a bigger and better car than my Scross 1.6 (ie. read as spacious 5 seater and performance).

Budget was set for 50 lakhs initially but was reluctantly okay to extend it upto 65 lakhs max if the car meets my simple requirements. But trust me it wasn't that easy.

Although many of my friends, fellow Scross 1.6 owners and aquaintances have mentioned about how difficult it is to find a replacement for Scross 1.6 (unless one is ready to shell out 45-50 lakhs), you realise only after you go through it in real time.

Since I've gotten used to the punchy diesel and the addictive torque of Scross 1.6 for the last 8 yrs, I was initially leaning towards diesel automatics only. But as the time progressed, i was okay with Petrol automatics too.
Although I was not very keen on Electric / Hybrid Vehicles, because of the budget in hand, eventually ended up test driving cars from multiple segments. After going through multiple posts of various cars in team bhp I short listed below cars for test drives if we were to purchase a new one.

Test drive list of Diesel Automatics and approximate OTR prices in Bangalore for top end models

2021 Mahindra XUV700 AX7L with optional AWD as AX5 did not have top end - ~32 to 34 lakhs
2022 4th Gen Hyundai Tuscon - ~46 lakhs
2023 New generation BMW - X1 - ~65 lakhs
2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA Facelift - 220 D - ~68 lakhs

Test drive list of EVS / Hybrids (when road tax did not exist for EVs in Karnataka until Mid of March 2024)

BYD Atto3 - ~36 lakhs
Ioniq 5 - ~49.50 lakhs
Toyota Camry - ~58 Lakhs

Test drive list of Petrol Automatics and approximate OTR prices in Bangalore for top end models

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Facelift - ~45 lakhs
2022 Audi Q3 - ~68 lakhs
2022 Skoda Kodiaq Facelift - ~53 lakhs

In order to not offend any current or future owners, I'll skip sharing the not so good things of the cars that we test drove from the above list. It is in the best interest as no one should be discouraged / influenced by others decisions.

After all these test drives, there were only 2 cars that brought BIG smile and Joy to us. It was the 2024 Mercedes Benz GLA facelift 220 D and 2022 Skoda Kodiaq Facelift in L&K variant and in the end we picked
Skoda Kodiaq L&K as this car is quite an all rounder and is absolute value for money. It is more car per money and with the Skoda's online discounts on 24th of each month, it made the deal even sweeter for us. At 46.50 lakhs on road Bangalore, it is an absolute steal when compared to the entry level prices of cars from the BIG 3 namely - Mercedes , BMW and AUDI

And just like the Scross 1.6, Skoda Kodiaq is also one of those cars that punches above its weight . (search for the relavant thread by GTO in tbhp and you will know what i mean)

In your last post, when you said that the car punched above its weight, Kodiaq was the car that had come to my mind. Many congratulations on getting this amazing car.

Even though Kodiaq has significantly more power, both S-Cross 1.6 MJD and the Kodiaq 2.0 TSI have the same torque at 320 nm, what a coincidence! Just in case that hadn't struck your mind!

Anyways, congrats on the new ride! Kodiaq is easily one of the best cars you can buy for around 50L and she looks rad in that lava blue colour!

Excellent choice, Kodiaq is indeed a great car. Wish you many miles of safe drive.
In a that budget and for a SUV, it’s difficult to beat a Kodiaq or Tiguan.

Congratulation, Keynote on your new acquisition and hope you have a wonderful ownership experience.

Going by your need to buy an automatic, assuming that you have bought a Skoda Kodiaq Automatic 7 speed DSG transmission. Going by many posts on this forum about the notorious behavior of the DSG transmission, please do also purchase an EW for the extended piece of mind.

Congratulations on the Kodiaq! It is indeed a car that punches above it's weight! And the powertrain offered is better than the X1.

Wish Skoda sold it with the sharper alloy wheel designs which are there internationally, as this was always a CBU/CKD product anyway!

Re: Maruti S-Cross 1.6L | Addictiveness Personified | EDIT: 110,000 km up!

I own a 2015 1.6 Scross too - had got it from Maruti truevalue in 2018 when it just had 250 kms on the odo (it was used in the Maruti Factory premises - the 1st owner on the RC is also Maruti Suzuki India Limited). The vehicle has done 92300 Kms and is a hoot to drive. It is really painful that I need to let it go because of the silly 10 year diesel rule in NCR. It's mantained like a baby and yet I have to part with it.

It is absolutely replaceable - with its 120 BHP engine and 320Nm of torque and Maruti reliability - available and pocket friendly spare parts. Have been wrecking my head for the last few months on its replacement within a max budget of 25 Lacs - nothing comes close !

I was also in the same boat in the beginning of this year.
Was having s cross 1.6 in which I had clicked 1.5 lakh kms and I was finding it extremely difficult to find an upgrade.
Atlast I went the pre owned route and ended up upgrading to vw Jetta diesel MT along with Tiago ev for daily commutes.

Thank you Rahul. You guessed it right. Btw, good luck with the hunt of your next car after Scross.

Hey G13BB - Yes yes fully aware of the torque figures being the same in stock version. But with stage-1 remap, my Scross 1.6 had 400 NM of torque and power at ~150 bhp. Scross 1.6 was not only great on highways but was more chukable in city limits too. After using the Kodiaq for last 2 months along with Scross 1.6 (until it got sold few days back), Scross 1.6 felt like a pocket rocket in comparison to Kodiaq

Thank you for the wishes and your observations.. More pics of my lava blue can be found here : https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/offic...ml#post5840817 (2022 Skoda Kodiaq Facelift Review | 2.0L Petrol DSG)

Thank you sunikkat for the wishes, couldn't agree more.

Thank you for the wishes Motorfanatic1. Yes Kodiaq came with complimentary 2 years service package and 5th year additional warranty for now. I'm told Skoda runs offers on extended warraties periodically, so i plan to take maximum advantage of the same as and when its made available.

Thank you for the wishes ProLearner. Coming from a first gen Scross and its alloys (which were not so popular for their looks), I'm more than happy with the current alloy design offered in Kodiaq. I'm sure you will agree after seeing the picture of them together sideways in my previous post.

I hear you. Considering your location, you can explore pre-worshipped route for a petrol sedan? How about a vRS230? or BYD Atto3 base model? Good luck with your hunt for the next car

Great choice with a Jetta Diesel, have fun.
