re: From Car to Thar | Story of my Mahindra Thar 700 (Signature Edition) | 80,000 Kms completed

4 Years and 71,354 Kms Completed:

Completed 4 Years of Ownership with the 3507 on 7th August,2023, over the course of time it has been a fuss free ownership apart from a few running repairs which has been listed in previous posts.

Below is the year wise Kms covered:

From Car to Thar | Story of my Mahindra Thar 700 (Signature Edition) | 80,000 Kms completed-untitled.jpg

The last 2 years have seen maximum usage, this year will also be a busy one as it is covering 2000-3000 Kms every month.

Fuel Efficiency figures with the current usage pattern:

The FE figures dropped to 12 kmpl due to highway speeds in the range of 100 Kmph consistently, apart from it with sedate driving style it returns good FE with the highest being 15+ Kmpl till now.

Current ODO stands close to 73,268 Kms and will end this month somewhere around 74,000 Kms, on a calendar Year on Year basis i.e. from Jan-23 to Aug-23, in 8 months have already completed 24,000 Kms.

re: From Car to Thar | Story of my Mahindra Thar 700 (Signature Edition) | 80,000 Kms completed

Weekend drive to Somnath:

We did a quick weekend drive to Somnath temple which is located about 400 kms from Ahmedabad. While returning we took a different route via Vadodara, Lah, Velan, Una exploring the Gujarat coastal route which relatively untouched and unexplored.

The ODO crossed 75,000 Kms during the trip, the overall fuel efficiency was in the range of 13-14 kmpl. The monthly usage continues to hover around 3000-4000 Kms.

Total drive lasted about 924 Kms over two days but the coastal route of Gujarat is worth trying for sure.

Off road outing at South Gujarat:

Our group of TCOG members did an off road outing at South Gujarat over the weekend. We explored the uncharted area of Padamdungri in Dang which is relatively unexplored and untouched.

The ODO is currently at 77,1xx Kms, got an overall FE of 14 kmpl which included off road session as well.

re: From Car to Thar | Story of my Mahindra Thar 700 (Signature Edition) | 80,000 Kms completed

80,000 Kms Update:

Completed 80,000 Kms with the 3507, it has been doing its duty satisfactorily be it for weekend OTRs, Road Trips or serve as a daily drive. Took it in for the 80,000 Kms service, got the engine oil, gearoil, diesel and air filters replaced.

The front suspension was making noise while passing over bumps and potholes, turns out the right side bushing was the culprit hence, got the same replaced. Further, got the hubs at the front greased with ATF since they were not engaging properly, post service took it out for an OTR and found the same working as per requirement.

Below is the No. of Days taken to cover each 10,000 Kms interval:

From Car to Thar | Story of my Mahindra Thar 700 (Signature Edition) | 80,000 Kms completed-untitled.png

Got a Snorkel installed in the Thar, bought it for Rs. 7800 from Amazon (JTI Make), escaped narrowly during couple of OTR sessions while water wading hence, this addition was on the cards for long.

Next up is the tyre replacement, since, the stock duelers have done its duty satisfactorily till now, considering to now shift towards AT tyres.

Options being considered are as follows:

Goodyear Silent Trac Vs Maxxis Bravo 771 Vs MRF OWL AT Vs Ceat Czar

Not considering Duelers or Geolanders for now as I wish to try another brand this time.

Due to my current work profile and road tripping, had been using the Thar extensively, with the kid growing up and given the number of days we travel during road trips, both these factors coupled with my current usage of 3-4k kms a month propelled us to look out for a worthy 4x4 cruiser which could be used for road tripping and while my daily usage gets managed between the two cars.

After months of searching, ended up with a used Pajero SFX which I landed up finding at a dealer's place nearby. Got the Pajero home last month, since then during the last month, the Pajero has run for 2500 kms whereas Thar has taken a share of 900 kms.

More on the SFX through a different thread, till then we are happily enjoying the ownership experience with Thar 700.

Congratulations on Paj! 3507 on 80K is exciting! Goodyears would be good. Are you still servicing 3507 at authorised workshop?

Please post photos post snorkal installation.

Hello, yes it’s still serviced there but I don’t get the running repairs done there since the charges are exorbitant.

Picked up Goodyear Silentrac as the next set of tires, didn’t upsize or downsized the tyres and retained the OE size. (235/70 R16)

Hey, Congratulations on the mileage you've achieved.

I had a Thar Crde and had put up the Apollo Apterra AT2. I had a brilliant experience, both on and offroad. Do have a look.

Hi, thanks, Apollo Apterra is indeed a good product and I have used it earlier on the other cars we have had. As of now have put on Goodyear Silentrac, yet to check it off road but on road they are working well and do not translate to any vibrations and rather is running smooth.
