Correct me if I am wrong, but you have the 1.9 litre pumpe duse engine and the not the 2.0 litre. The 2.0 litre was introduced in the subsequent generation of the Jetta sold here.

I say this because even I had the 1.9 litre pumpe duse Comfortline MT model.

Here's a really low quality of my really high quality car, taken towards the end of a 7 year ownership-

2.0tdi was also available in MK5 Jetta in late 2009 or 2010. As far as I know, the only visual difference were the instrument cluster (Red MID in 1.9tdi with blue dial backlight vs White MID and dial backlight in 2.0tdi), Climate control layout and the steering wheel design. I am not sure if 2.0TDI was available (I have not seen any) with a DSG.
We still have the MK5 Jetta 1.9tdi dsg we bought used in 2017 and has added 1lakh km to the odometer. Currently at 1.5lakh km it still runs quite well and have no plans of replacing it in near future. Except for the occasional ABS sensor replacement it has mostly been trouble free and never let us down.

What a car! A blue-blooded Volkswagen. The Character. The Poise. The Drive. One of the all-time greats. And well-maintained, just what such a car deserves. Congratulations!

Re: 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDi MT | Long-term ownership experience | 1.47 lakh km

I had seen this car in Germany and had liked it. And then there was news that this would be launched in India. So, I was eagerly waiting! There was some news that the lowest version would be sub 10L on road and I was somehow trying to budget for the same. When it was launched, the car was not in my budget and I was disappointed. Anyway I drove both the diesel and petrol variants just to get the feeling of the car. It was a great driving experience. Thanks to VW dealerships for offering ride to me although knowing that I wont be buying it eventually, as I had already told them it was out of my budget. I did not like the subsequent Jettas launched in India, as there was compromise with interior quality, I felt. I had a Corsa at that time, eventually settled for Vento years later.

The German cars are fantastic over long term, if serviced regularly.

1. Opel Corsa 1.4 GLS : 10.5 Years. The car is still being used by the second owner :-)

2. VW Vento 1.6 AT: 11 years. My friend bought from me.

Anyway, Congratulations on maintaining this lovely car so well to you as well as to your father. Even today this car draws my attention on roads.

Wow! Your car is maintained in immaculate condition!!
There's something about these better built cars from Volkswagen which were not heavily localized. Especially ones like yours which are maintained well. Looks actually new.
Even today, any Jetta or Passat on the road grabs my attention.

Wish you many more miles with the Jetta. Its going to be hard to find a worthy replacement for this one!

Thanks Vinith for this beautiful write up.

I too just bought a 2017 A3 2.0 TDI 2 years ago as the engine is a keeper in today's age of EV's and Petrols. The last of the Diesels if you will. Good to know that things are doing well and wish you all the best with the car in the future.

Re: 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDi MT | Long-term ownership experience | 1.47 lakh km

This 13-year-old car looks better and is better equipped than most of the cars on sale today. I'm always tempted to swap my Freestyle with this gen Jetta or Passat. Doing my best not to spend more money on automobiles

Re: 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDi MT | Long-term ownership experience | 1.47 lakh km

No doubt, it's a lovely car. I own a 2016 VW Jetta and done close to 75000 kms. It's an absolute pleasure driving the car. When one sits behind the wheel, one gets a feeling of total assurance. Great mileage, low on maintenance and I agree the quality of leather is great. Not a single crease on the seats anywhere. And I zealously guard my VE Jetta not allowing my driver to use it..Pity that VW stopped selling this car. One of the best sedans I have driven..

This model you have is particularly good. I’ve had older boxy model. There’s no compromise on the build quality though.
Thank you sir and yes older the car, the better the build was.

Re: 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0 TDi MT | Long-term ownership experience | 1.47 lakh km

Hello Vinith

You have got a beautiful car. Congratulations for maintaining an absolute beauty

I own a MK5 Jetta 1.9 PD highline DSG
103000 km on the ODO
Everything works and not a single rattle or squeak from those lovely well made interiors.
The quality of leather and other interior trim is far superior to MK6 Jetta

The only negative for me is the tractor like engine {my car has got the 1.9 Pump Duse engine}. The engine sound is very annoying to be honest. But the fuel economy is fantastic and it is a work horse engine which is more reliable/less finicky when compared to 2.0 TDI.

Regarding the confusion about the engine in your car: as far as I know, 2.0 TDI had replaced 1.9 PD from November 2009. There are a few cars like mine which has got the 1.9 engine but with new instrument cluster
{white light instead of blue/red background}

Also 1.9 PD was never available with MT in MK5 Jetta {someone please correct me if I am wrong}
MT option was offered with 2.0 TDI only IIRC
MK5 Jetta manual shows only 1.6 petrol manual and 1.9 PD DSG as variants

My car is July 2009 manufactured and January 2010 registered. Planning to keep her till it falls apart {considering the excellent build quality and spare part availability from Europe- it wont happen anytime soon}

Beautiful Car Doc congratulations on your new purchase. I believe yours will be one of the few surviving Pump Duse-engined VW/Skoda. Are the parts available from VW/Skoda locally on order? The same Engine was with Octavia right?

Octavia 1.9 TDI is different from 1.9 Pump Duse engine of Jetta. Skoda Laura came with this 1.9 PD engine but Octavia engine is just Turbo diesel engine without intercooler I think- which made 90 bhp compared to 105 bhp of PD engine in my car {very old technology - probably from the early 1990's}

I am not planning to take my car to VW as I have a few good German car specialist FNG's around my place. Parts availability is not much of a problem - Thanks to our team bhp-ian Virat who sourced all the parts I needed. Also plenty of parts available from Ebay and other sources from Europe. Yes, it is a hassle and parts cost a bomb but still manageable as of now

Hard luck mate, it was actually the opposite for me, I badly wanted to get the Honda City diesel in 2016 but my dad was fixed on buying the Rapid 1.5 TDi MT. Don't worry Honda City is an extremely reliable car just maintain it well it will go on and on for years. Expecting a review of your City!!

Sir this face of Jetta was introduced with the 1.9 pd TDi, but in 2010 2.0 TDi was introduced and from 2011 the face-lift Jetta was introduced!!

Thank you so much!! No plans for remap sir.

Yes I own a Laura too 2013 L&K 2.0 TDi it is also a pure bliss to drive but comparing the mk5 and this gen Laura definitely mk5 has better quality, the doors feel heavy in the mk5 than the Laura. Also Laura is little sensitive in the maintenance department than the Jetta mk5.

Thank you so much!! The quality of Opel was excellent back then. My uncle had an Astra from 2000 to 2005, my dad still says nothing matches its ride quality in that segment!!

Nice idea mate but I would advice you to get the new gen Jetta so you can use it for a few more years or if this gen Jetta with less kms on the odo and if its maintained well you can go for it.

Thank you so much sir!! I accept that the 1.9 engine is more noisier than the 2.0 but I like the 1.9 tdi more I'm a kind of person who loves to hear the diesel clatter while driving which is evident with the 1.9!! You too have maintained your car excellently sir congratulations!!

These Germans are actually quite reliable if you take care of them well. If you neglect it and abuse them, they are bound to give you trouble. For me the Jetta's rear end is most the good looking part of the car. Owners could you also tell me if part availability is an issue for this generation.
