Getz 1.3 GLS first 900 km
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-term-ownership-reviews/27768-getz-1-3-gls-first-900-km.html)
Hi everyone.
In the last 2 weeks, i have been able to drive the new Getz GLS to around 900 km and here is my experience in brief.
Although 900 km in 2 weeks seems to be quite a ride, much of it - 700 km was one long self driven trip to Nagapattinam and the remaining 200km has been in Chennai. During this brief time, i have really been impressed with the features of this car. All along, i have tried to drive within 80 kmph @ less than 2k-2.2k RPM. Here is by brief take on it:
PROS:
- Engine is really smooth and smooth at even high RPMs
- Ride quality is excellent- small bumps are not even felt inside and no rattle sounds at all in bad stretches
- Space - slowly i have realised that it is actually a 'big' car.
- AC is really powerful. Even without sunfilms, it aws able to cool in a few minutes
- Features of the car are really useful- particularly tilt steering and arm rest, split folding rear seats etc
CONS:
- Pricey - as it has been repeatedly pointed out. but now ok-ish with the offers.
- At lower RPMs the car is slow to pull (paricularly in 2nd gear) -i think its the combination of engine with the heavy build.
- Also i noticed the engine lugging many times in the reverse gear.
- i found the brakes to be a bit too sharp - may be the last two are car specific
I could not measure the mileage in city through top-up method. But i could do it on the long trip, courtsey petrol @Rs.41.7 /L at Pondicherry:). I topped up fully (untill filled not by auto cutoff) at Pondy, enroute to Nagapattinam. After return again did the same there- to and fro from Pondy to Nagapattinam. 327 km for 23.3 L which was exactly 14 kmpl - so far so good. I was more happy as the measured distance was nowhere a good highway and was really painful in some stretches.
Overall i am happy and convinced that i made the right choice - thanks to all the good info available on various fora in team-bhp.
Can you please throw light on in the milage in the city?
Also how there is any noticeable diffrence in pickup if the A/C is on?
Sorry for the post from my friend's id. My account had some lo-in problems, so i had asked my friend to post it from his id but forgot to mention that its me.
- as i mentioned, so far i have not been able to measure city mileage through fill up method. From the fuel indicator, i guess it would be around 10.
- AC does not have any impact on engine performance in GLS. However, the dealer was mentioning that this was the commonest complaint in 1.1 though.
Hi Coolspeed,
Congratulations on your car. I'll be joining the tribe of Getz owners in a couple of weeks. I've booked the GLX version which should arrive by 1st week of Sept.
I did a couple of test drives of the car and, like you, was amazed at the smoothness of the engine and softness of the ride. I found it amazing. (I've been driving a Santro for 2 years - so that's my current point of reference.)

The total discount I got was 37 K -
Exchange/Loyalty - 20K
Corporate - 7K
Cash Discount - 10K
The original price for the GLX is 5.88 L, after the discounts I am getting it for 5.51 L.
Plus the dealer is providing a Nippon MP3 system, with Pioneer Speakers and 3rd year extended warantee (worth Rs 3000).
I got a TD from both Sanjay Hyuandai (at Wakdewadi) and Kothari (Kharodi). Both of them didn't have official demo vehicles for the Getz 1.3, so they offered me a test drive with one the cars parked there (which were probably for delivery).
Slightly OT but relevant - When I took the test drive from Sanjay Hyundai at Wakdewadi, the salesperson let me drive a car with the odometer disconnected. An experience like this makes me fearful of concluding a deal with them as I don't know if I'm really getting a brand new car. Just wanted to share my experience with you guys.
A getz 1.3 for around 5.5 laks is expensive. In delhi with discounts new Esteem Lxi is available on road for 4.79 Laks..... but I guess a few people like newer cars and not "bigger" ones.
Julian, yes, it makes me wonder too. But I don't think we have much of a choice. I've seen the odo's of most new cars disconnected till the time you take final delivery. I've experienced this with the Scorpio, Safari and Getz TDs.
The Safari sales exec even told me to that they don't ever keep a Safari for a TD, they just wait for a customers vehicle to arrive, keep it for a few days and offer TDs to all the prospects they've lined up. :Shockked:

Even I feel Getz is pricey at 5.5 lacs. But it is much more spacious than esteem (no boot though)for sure.
@Compenn, the Getz for 5.5L is the GLX version - with ABS and Alloys.
I've ridden in the Esteem a couple of times and from what I could tell, it seemed much smaller inside than the Getz. (I was sitting at the rear passenger seat, and my legs were cramped.) I found the Getz to be really really spacious for a car in its category.
This is an apples to oranges comparison, but, considering just the seat comfort, the rear middle seat of the Getz is even more comfortable than the SX4 (due to the absence of the arm rest).

One of the things I liked about this car is that the rear seats have an adjustable incline. So you can seat 5 people in complete comfort and still have a pretty big boot space.
There is also the 40:60 rear folding seats - which help if you're carrying 3-4 people and big sized luggage.
Getz 1.3 Rocks
=> Very Spacious Boot
=> Spacious Rear Seats, 60:40 split and double folding
=> Arm Rest/Left leg rest (driver)
=> Awesome windshield - really large
=> Best gearshift in its class
=> Silent engine - very silent indeed

I fully agree....:Cheering:
Congrats on Getz. very spacious true premium hatchback!
Getz is awasome car. I baught Swift over Getz because of bad resale value and overpriced tag when we compare with Swift. I have sold Swift
and got good resale value.
But after owning Swift I realized Swift is crap car compared to my friend's Getz which is still going strong after 2 years/20,000kms. We never feel like we need to service Getz even after months/travelling thousands of kilometers. But cars like Swift need service for every 4000km otherwise minor issues start very fast.
Regards,
Ravi.
