How is the intercooler cleaning done ?

remove the front bumper, remove the intercooler and clean the intercooler. takes about 30 min to do the whole process.

chances of the MASS folks ruining something else while doing this ? ;p

Why?

I have got it done twice and I have been through the process. It is very simple to do. It is the only solution when oil gets into the intercooler. If the engine oil sump is slightly overfilled with engine oil, oil invariably gets into the intercooler.

Dieselfan - can you please explain how the cleaning is done? I mean is it cleaned with diesel, compressed air or something else. And how? Assuming we have the intercooler open after removing the bumber and disconnecting the intercooler pipes.

MASS just used Cotton waste and diesel to clean the intercooler. Very limited amount of diesel was used just to remove the muck. Compressed air was not used.

Thanks for explaining DeiselFan. I think cotton waste and very little amount of diesel will help clean only the intercooler ends (in and out). If indeed there is oil in there, I think, that would be staying in the fins. Hence I asked if the air was used to get that out. I hope I am not missing anything here?

I have done the intercooler cleaning twice in my 50K running. They simply remove the intercooler and then pour Diesel / petrol into it and then shake the complete stuff and then remove the fluid. They repeat the process till the fuel coming out after shaking is "clean". Else the fuel will be black when they empty after shaking. There is no way any one would ruin anything. This is a very simple process. And yes, we need to do this when oil gets into the intercooler during the oil fill exceeding the mentioned limits [3.1L for Swift DDiS].

You can make out whether this needs to done from the way the car is performing. I had a lesser acceleration for my car and also the smoking was excessive compared to normal levels. I reported this during my service and they checked the intercooler and found lots of oil traces and cleaned it up. The car is back to normal and is performing well now and not much smoke under acceleration as well.

I have decided that I will carry out this cleaning for every 20K kms now on. Doesn't cost much and the car remains as new while accelerating.

My Dzire VDi would be going in for 40,000 Kms servicing next week. The problem now is that the MASS where I used to take the car has stopped stocking Mobil Delvac and only has Servo.
I have asked them whether I can get Mobil and whether they would use the same. The SA stated that he would talk to the Works Manager and come back.

If they agree, can I take just 3L of Mobil and ask them to add the remaining 100 ml from Servo. This would prevent me the hassle of storing the unused Mobil oil.

Do you guys foresee any issue with this i.e. a mix of 3 L Mobil + 100 ml Servo. Both would be the same grade oil but from diff manufacturers?

Swiftnfurious: What are the charges for InterCooler cleaning? I haven't done that till data and am planning on doing it during my upcoming service

Easier thing is to keep the remaining oil in the back. The oil packs are leak proof and will stay safe till you need it for a top up or next service.

Is there a shelf life for an opened oil can?
I am asking this because my next service would be approx after another 4-5 months.

4-5 months is not an issue, if you can store it at a cool place. Beyond 12 months etc breakdown of content can happen.

Hopefully this should be my last question: What is the approx price for a 5L can of Mobil Delvac MX? I am being quoted Rs 1250/- ? Is that right or expensive?

Yup prices have gone up, it was 220/liter earlier, last time i paid 260 or 270 for the 1 liter cans in BLR.

i have a problem which might be related to CLUTCH. i am experiencing some sort of inner pain in my left knee since 2-3 months. it is some sort of inner pain. i dont feel any pain while driving, while pressing clutch but it surfaces simply when i walk that too only few times.
is it really related to driving(pressing clutch)? or has it to do anything with my seating position? i own a swift dzire vdi since 2 years and has completed 80000km. but self driven around 35000km. has something like this been experienced by other swift owners here? any solution?
