That's scary,
the problem doesn't seem to be one off, as discussed in this thread, this has happened to three cedias.
I've taken extended warranty, I wonder if such things are covered !
. |
Yes. Maya Motors are replacing my car steering assembly under warranty and they informed me that extended warranty also covers such things. I have already taken the extended warranty.
And it is Rs. 7.5k.
The bad thing for me is, they installed a replacement steering (black color, I guess from the earlier ELEGANCE model) within 1 week time, but the original steering assembly (the beige one) is still on its way from Japan or wherever..!!!:Frustrati They themselves don't know when they will get the original steering wheel assembly. No problem for me, it just looks very bad... Thats about it.

The black one is from cedia sports Sir..till 2008.. the sports cedias had same steering wheel as that of elegance, just that they were black. elegance, spirit or the select never came with black steering. Im sure it would be looking yuk with biege.. just the way it was in some optra I drove..
rest I am also going to get my cedia's warrenty extended this saturday.. its surprising that this kinda wierd issue has come up.
Thanks for the update Gaurav. Yes, it looks weird and kind of uncomfortable to me while driving. It is also slightly bigger than the original one. Anyways, I am still waiting for the replacement.
Hi guys, I was planning to upgrade my cedia's horn from stock to roots or stebel. However, this thread was the first thing that came to my mind as the problem related to horn were first reported here. Since the problem with touch pad or the horn switch led to the complete airbag assembly in steering to be changed, I was a bit reluctant in tampering with the stock horn, though friends asked to change it.
so I called up Mitsubishi to confirm if its ok to get the horn changed. I told them that I will be installing relays and load wont get sheeded on the horn switch or the touch pad. I was strickly asked by mitsubishi not to tamper with the stock horn. I had a word with the Mitsubishi electritian itself and he informed that although problems related to horn and air bag assembly have not been reported in cedia, this problem has certainly croped up in pajero. He said that powerful horns such as roots and stebel will put load on the touch pad no matter you install whatever relays and chances of the pad getting damaged are more.
Did you guys, megger and raja, had aftermarket horns on your cedia? that may be a reson for the problem cropping up.
My dealer and another car-modifier in Chennai too had advised against modifying the horns. In fact, they are not sure how to do it properly and check if it is ok and they cannot give any guarantee on the workmanship of the modification.
As such, the dual tone horns are very powerful and I myself did not feel the need to upgrade it.
Well, well, Finally, at last, Maya Motors fixed the my car steering assembly with Module, and Airbag on my car yesterday. Under warranty and the Invoice read INR. 46,429.33.:Shockked:
Thanks Gods it was under warranty and I paid Null. I now have extended warranty until next September, and don't know what if the horn goes bonkers after that. Probably I would buy myself a MOMO Steering at that time.:D
@Raja, The thread is now 6 pages, 81 posts long. But not a single pic. What's up ?
@condor:
Pics I posted in my New Car ownership report at
this thread. Check it out. Pics are very amateurish, taken from a 1MPixel phone camera.

Ahh.. I competely missed this, sorry about that and thanks for replying. I think its better not to tamper with the horn.

Good to hear that things are sorted, they took a while though..I hope we dont need to use our warrenties but its good that we have extended them. 46k is huge and its better pay 7.5k as ranson, as Megger said.
In between is the steering wheel completely changed?, or is it just the horn pad and airbag thing inside the steering wheel. If its complete steering, then there may be a bit difference between the colour of the used interior (particularly seats) and the steering wheel.
Also if it troubles after the warrenty is finished, I am sure there are people outside who can sort it. If not, then the best way is to go direct with horn, connect it to battery, put a switch along side steering wheel as it was done in ur case as temporary replacement. No way paying 50k for horn. Air bag is the important stuff and that didnt went wrong.
In between, Momo wont go with biege interiors, I know u know that..lol:.
Its more expensive as well, was quoted last 85k for the complete thing, 25 for the wheel and 60 for the air bag assembly.:Shockked:
Answering Gaurav,
Sorry for delay, today I got it confirmed from the dealer that "Air Bag Module assly with Horn Pad only replaced .The same steering wheel fixed back ."
A whopping 46K+ for that..!!! it had to come from Japan or Australia or Timbuktu, I don't know. This leaves us only with 'outside' solutions, in case of recurrence after warranty expires.
In my case, the temporary replacement was not a separate switch as you thought. They gave me a complete steering assembly, a Black one, as one of our friend mentioned, from a old Cedia Sports. When mine was fixed, they replaced it.
As far as MOMO, I dropped the idea completely. 85K.! Not me spending that kind of money.
(Kind request to Mods: Please Edit the Thread title to "EDIT: Now 2 years, 12,000 kms)
Well, I should have written his report at the beginning of October, my car completed 2 years and 12,000 kms on 24 Sept-2009. Now here I come with a 2 years ownership report of my Second LOML (Love of My Life).
Well, as far as goodies go, nothing to add, other than wondering now and then, why I don’t have to visit the garage so frequently as my friends who own other cars do. Every 6 months Maya Motors never failed to call me up and follow up for the regular service, each of those costing somewhere between 1600 to 1800 Rupees. And every time they take the car for service, they touch up all the paint scratches and give a complete rubbing/ polishing and the car shines like brand new again. And this they do free. As I said earlier, they have pick-up and delivery from my home/ office and it’s a one day affair.
As complaints I have none. (Other than that out-of-the-world problem of "Horn going bonkers" epispode, described earlier on this thread.!
I had taken the car to Bangalore last August, as first long drive. And first time I was pressing 100+ on the highway. Well, having driven at 200+ in Saudi, it was kind of difficult to keep myself under100, somehow I managed. A Honda City guy was wagging his tail for quite a few miles and I wasn’t biting the bait. But then, the bull’s pride took over the patience and just a gentle press on the pedal and I was doing 130+ and zoomed past the City in a wink. Well got back to control and let him pass me again, keeping the dangers always lurking on these highways.
While coming back, I had a go-let-go game with an SX4 and a Scorpio trying in vain to keep up with us. It was fun driving and made Chennai Bangalore Outer-outer in four hours.
Another time took her to Pondicherry and back, and again it was so smooth. Both occasions, never felt any tiredness of driving and car was behaving like a cool-horse.
It really doesn’t feel like 2 year old car to me. Except all those scratches on sides and bumpers, thanks to two wheelers of Chennai, car still looks very new.
Complaints? Well, for a Mitsubishi, taken care properly, its really hard to have any complaints in the machine. One minor glitch- the Remote key plastic is cracked and its going to give way in a few days time I am afraid. Dealers say it comes with Engine Immobilizer (News for me) and it will cost 4,700 Rupees.! I tried the spare key which was in the shelf, that doesn’t work too. They said to change the battery (Nippon) and try. Maya Motors said they would send the Nippon guy to my place to check the battery and replace if required. Amazing Service, ain’t it?
Here are some of pictures of my car take a couple of breathe during my trip to Bangalore.
Hi Raja, Nice ride you have! Are you staying in adyar? i've seen your ride near Spencer's diary, Gandhi nagar.
Cheers,
L&S.
I live in Kilpauk, but you could have seen my car few days ago, when it was taken for 2 year service by Maya Motors.
nice updates Sir :thumbs up.
Touchwood the machine is trouble free.. absolutely amazing.
About the engine immobilizer, I thought only the new cedia came with the immobilizer and our cars dont have one.. If it does.. the its great.
Try changing the battery of the second key and it should work.. Battery of one of my key also went off..I just got them changed at dealer while servicing. I believe they didnt even charge for it being under warrentyclap:.
Rest, the car looks brand new.
