My Safari's Long Term Report @ 57K KM

Here goes, I have been planning to put this up for Ages and I finally found some time to complete it.

Tata Safari LX

Date of Purchase - May 05

Price Paid - 7.7 L OTR Bangalore

KM Done - 57K KM

Mods - Injector and Pump Internal Timing have been worked upon for Power Delivery and Throttle Response.

ICE - 4 Ch A/D/S driving a Pair of JBL 6x9's and a MTX 10" Sub, 2 Ch JBL Running a Pair of JBL Comp upfront (Added Later), 2 5" BLaus on the rear Door running of the HU.

Tyres - Yokohama AT+II, Changed @ delivery.

Why Yokohama - After having driven My Sierra on a Set of these, I put my faith in them. The Set on the Sierra Lasted me 70 K KM with exceptional All Terrain Traction. This was practically a No Brainer!!

Oil Change Interval - 7.5K KM - With My Driving Style its imperative that I follow this interval. Dusty, Hot Weather, Highway Cycle combined with 100 % AC Usage.

Spares and Consumables - Apart from Regular Oil changes..

Brake Pads changed @ 27K KM - The Ooty Trips have taken a toll on the Pads by Now!

STP Engine Treatment

Accelerator Cable

STP Diesel Additive every 3-4 Tank Full's

Warranty Repairs carried out -

a. AC Condenser Changed @ 1K KM

Where, when and how (fixed) - AC Stops working on my way back home @ Midnight!! ... Call Prerana @ 9 AM Next morning... and Voila I have a AC Condenser Failure. Now what??
They don’t have stock and neither does TML @ their Local Warehouse. Call TATA @ 2 PM in the afternoon... Fire them up and lo presto the Condenser Coil Appears in an hour out of No where.

Kudos to Prerana - I get a Call @ 1130 PM - Sir your Vehicle is ready do you want us to deliver it home?? I was @ loss for words here.... Said will come and pick it up myself tomorrow. Landed up @ 8:30 AM Next day and car was cleaned and standing in the driveway....

b. AC Fan Changed at 28k Mark

This happened while the Truck was in for a Routine Check-Up which I always have the guy do before any outstation trip.
Went for a Test Drive and Voila the AC Fan Fuse Goes Kaput, come back change the Fuse Go for a spring... Kaput again!
@ This point we decide that the Fan is the Culprit and needs a change.... Again No Warranty Stock @ Prerana!!..... Walk around in the Yard find a Damaged Sumo (frontal Damage). Rip the Fan out of the Sumo as a temporary fix. Did some minor Fabrication so that it fits into the Safari Condenser Unit (Sumo has a smaller Fan).... Presto on the way!! Need to head out to Mangalore late Night.

c. Rear Coil Springs @ 30K KM (Cause of the Mangalore Trip)

With Full Complement of Passengers and Luggage thru shiradi ghat, I manage to Land the Truck in a Crater with a Thud!! Check the Truck out.. everything looks fine. While @ Udupi go over a Bump and I hear a metal to metal Kerr Noise Emanating from the Back ... this happens for couple of other uneven Surfaces as well while at good speed. I knew either I had a bent Suspension Linkage or a bent spring.

Back @ Bangalore - Get it checked, and indeed the springs are bent and are touching the Top housing on compression. Changed under Warranty (don’t ask me how).

Places the Truck has seen So Far -

Chennai, Pondicherry, Ooty / Red Hills, Mangalore, Waynad, Mysore. Pune, Dharwad and many more day sprints to places around Bangalore.

And a Trip half to Waynad to Toe a Friend Corolla Back after his wife Rear Ended it to a Indica and the Air Bags Deployed !!

Issues So Far -

After 21/2 Years on the Road, about a month ago the Truck refused to Crank, reason Battery Dead (Cell gone Kaput)!!

Off Late the Idler Arm has been loosening it more often ... guess its asking for a change.

PS: Truck hasn’t seen a Flat Tyre yet.... :-)
