Splash should be the WagonR replacement, but i dont think that will happen unless WagonR sales fall below the 5k mark (its consistently over 10k plus most months)

As for the Estilo being a failure, there are selling decent amounts of 5k-6k per month, which is profitable enough for MSIL! (total 15k-18k cars in that segment a month!). But i would love to see another car in its place with the Zen badge, perhaps the splash.

Yeah, it was the same price of a WagonR Lxi, or about 4k more, when I bought my Waggie in July 2001. It was also rated as the fastest little car in India at that time.
I wanted to go for it, but the extra space in the Waggie changed my mind.

Thats absurd pricing from Maruti (from a customer's point of view). I would have paid 20 - 30k more to get a better engine, but surly not 70k. I bought LXI model.

Maybe adding a better engine requires upgrade in many more components and that would have lead to this cost increase.. hope someone who knows better comments here.

I don't know whether technically there was any difference in the 1.1L model of the car, but what I've felt while driving/traveling in both is that the 1.1L feels more planted.

I own a 1.1L Alto Vxi.... it runs.... pushed it to 160 in the 4th was pretty stable for a car its size!.

Coming back to the topic... I normally drive a wagonR... but don't particularly like the seating and pedal placing for a LONG drive... so i find the Alto more comfy for LONG drives (provided there's no one at the rear seat)..

Before I drove Wagon R, I never realized the charm of it.. The car handles pretty well in speed range of 130/140 in comparison to Santro. Although I am a die hard fan of Hyundai because of VFM for certain models santro does not score better than Wagon R. Santro Engine seems to be harsh/ become problematic after 45/50k kms.

Alto Lxi remains a good FE car with almost no power with AC. The suspension, built quality, noise insulation, handling is should not be compared with Santro 1.1. Alto Vxi is a pleasure to drive around and I have seen several extremely happy users even after 40k kms on board.
