Safari has a cam angle sensor, thats all I know.
One question though. The car has run 10,000kms with this problem. So It won't break down due to this, right? If it won't I think I have had enough, and will live with it as an unsolvable problem

Which is exactly why I am requesting you to meet him once and build your rapport, phir dekhna Sirji, Noida kya, aapke aangan mein aake gaadi repair karwayega, abhi, just chill and get your job done, and the job is "Rapport".
He will come there sometime during the day.
So unless I take the day off from office, no chance of meeting him.
I have mailed customer support and asked them to get an engineer to sterling. After all its Automobile sterling who send a mail to Tata telling them they can't fix problem.
If Delphi people can go to all workshops for problems, I think this guy will also come.
To solve it in better ways. Better lodge consumer complaint at consumer forum for at least replacement of defective engine. After your numerous visit to TASS and calling TML engineers, so much of diagnostics your problem still remain as of day one.
You must be spending your much of time doing rounds of TASS and asking them to rectify the problem. Better if you seek advice to go to Consumer Court with all of your proofs of replacements, breakdowns, communication with TASS, TML etc.
Just my 2 cents.
that is the last option. If my vehicle had been breaking down I would have done that.
Since this problem is a big niggle, rather than a breakdown causer, I want to give chance to TML to fix this problem first
well... my accent had a power window problem during the rains when it used to get stuck midway. it took more than an year to get fixed. they told me.. come back when it rains. good part was that a complaint to HMIL made them run like crazy and the problem was fixed. they replaced the glass, the assembly, channels and the beading too.
Good things do happen to good people, but they take time.
being a tata indica owner too, i am used to trips between the Sterling noida and their CNG installer in okhla (close to sanya motors). One says take it to the CNG guy, other says take it to the tata guys.
niggles crop up... they get major at times. i have been following this thread very keenly and understand to some extent what you are going through - but that doesn't make me stop thinking that in year or so.. i'll buy a safari too.
I wish you all the best, the problem will get fixed.. just go with the flow..

That means this sensor verifies the camshaft position with respect to the crankshaft.
Is there such a sensor in use? If this were the case the sensor would cut the engine in case of timing belt breakage too? |
Yes, such a sensor is in use. It doesn't let the engine start. Period. As Rahul says.......

Tata motors seems to be testing and learning at your expense and time. In warranty either they should fix the problem, or replace vehicle. They can then use your car in their lab for all research and development. I think this is really enough, you should go and launch a case against them, if you know a lawyer. Atleast they should give some sort of end date by when they would either fix or replace. This seems to be dragging forever. You are really too good to them :-)
Yes, the vehicle is giving an unusual number of problems, but response from Tata has been good. All it takes is a mail to customer care to fix most things.
For example, the engineer will now come to Noida :)
In my opinion, its better to get problems sorted by Tata. Only if Tata had not responded to my problems, and not fixed all issues, I would have sought legal route.
Right now I am mostly looking out for show stopper issues, and ignoring niggles.
As of now, this rpm surging and slight roughness in gearshift is the only problem.
As for gearshift issue, this is apparent in many safari's and looks mostly to be a design issue rather than vehicle issue.
However a TD with the engineer will put all matters to rest hopefully.
^^ so mr shantanu must be really happy that a tata engineer is finally coming to his workshop. the guys are pretty helpful there at sterling
Met the engineer.
He is currently working on the car. Hopefully things should be sorted out by evening.
Thankfully she did not start working properly at the sight of the engineer.
So he could easily see the problem first hand

Good to know the Engineer is finally in, I hope this time around all issues are resolved once for all.

So what did he say? Does he have any ideas - or is it another one of the usual hit-and-miss approaches?

Well, he said he will try a few things, different from what he instructed on the phone. Hopefully, he will get to root cause. Otherwise the cycle will continue :Frustrati
