Team-BHP - My Maruti 1000

Well since we have a maruti 800 thread here in the classics section I thought I would post some pictures of my maruti 1000 bought brand new from the showroom (which my father designed and built) in the year 1992 apparently in exchange for professional fees:). The sunvisors still have the plastic on them and she has travelled 60,000 Kms in the last 17yrs. She is now living a life of retirement in my house in poona. Dont miss the orginal Sony deck purchased as an accessory at that time.

Those are wonderful pics of the 1000.I still remember as a very small kid the 1000 was the ultimate luxury car in the world for me!!.Those were the days.

Tell me about it, we got this car new when I was in a particular school famous for Bollywood actors children and children of prominent industrialists and I remember there were not more than 4 of these cars dropping kids to school at that time. Maruti 1000's were replacing all the standard 2000's and the Standard montego's. And when my dad got the car I distinctly remember my friend circle in school growing by leaps and bounds:).

Wow. Very neatly maintained car. Interiors look as good as new. Yes, this was the desire of many youngsters those days. This was the car we wanted to have, when we were in schools. M1000 was the car that boosted the entry level sedan segment. Sincere thanks to your father, for designing such a beauty. clap:
As for the last sentence , it was the influence of "My daddy's BIG CAR":D.

I had a similar feeling when we got ours in 1992.

Its was one of the first lot cars in Bangalore. Paid a grand sum of 4.12 lakhs which was like crazy expensive. I was totally bowled over by the air vents that went into the door pads.

Had poor bottom end torque but once you revv it past 3500 it used to rip.

They had a lever under the hood for winter and summer air intake.

The Mole - you are an legend mate '. very well maintained M 1000 , just a suggestion you can use a neutral shoe polish to get the shine on dashboards & plastic door parts. ( thats what I have been doing since 1987 , on our M800 , WagonR , Alto , Honda City , My Esteem & Toyota ) and the shine lasts for about 6~8 months and best part being neutral in colour it doesnt leave the colour of polish on lets say that very expensive silk dress of the passenger.

Good to see the car in the very fit fat stage. She looks still Buitiful in these days also.

What's the mileage getting from her? just a curiosity question.

In the year 1994 december , my dad was in a fix to either go for tata estate or an esteem. and he finally went for estate. but lemme tell you had he also bought esteem in the year 2000. esteem is a very nice car and hardly has any maintainance cost. we sold the car 2 years back.

The ultimate luxury car of the early 90's in India ! If I remember correctly, it had around 45BHP and it would really struggle when the A/C was switched on. Superbly maintained car 'The Mole' ! I still own,maintain and drive it's elder cousin, the Esteem !

The first drool worthy Indian car. I remember the crowd that gathered around the first 1000 in my hometown. Belonged to a garment store owner.

@mnhegde, I think Japanese engineers designed this car. Although, even I thought for a moment that mole's dad did. Being an architect, I am quite familiar with this 'goods in lieu of fees' payment mode. Nearly did some work for a dairy products manufacturer once. He would probably have paid me in ghee packets.

That's a good looking 17 year old car. I still remember the day when my uncle took us for a ride in his 1000. It must have been 1992. It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. :)

I had a 1000 and it was just awesome. I miss it so much. Remember the quarter glass getting stolen was the rage, lol. And the weather strips. I lost all on the first day. I just love that car. SO many memories.

:thumbs up A very well maintained car!! I have fond memories of this car as well, it was one of the first cars we owned back in 1993 and boy oh boy, I was really excited when I drove it for the first time (from my garage to on the road :D) at age 11
