Thanks for correcting. These days I get the work done in outside workshop. But the workshop owner worked in TATA workshop for 13 years or so and understands specially old gen cars. He insists on getting the original equipment, and sometimes if it is not available outside he gets it from the TATA Motors ASS.

I am very much impressed by the way you are taking care of your ride. So much money spent and more importantly time.

I just found this Safari which says 2007 model ex bs3 for 3,25,000.00 with 1,80,000 in the odo here in Chennai. Is it worth buying? What do I look for before purchase and how much should I allocate for repairs later? Do we get half engines like we get for Maruti cars? The car is with the dealer now.

Any Safari owners please share your wisdom. Thanks in advance!

That's a sweet deal, it's a 6 year old car at 1/3rd the price. The kilometers clocked also look genuine, please take it to a TASS and get the advisors there to give it a once-over, if you like it, awesome, advance welcome to the Safari club

Check for the fuel pump overhaul cost. It would be more since it is a crdi. Apart from that, take it to TASS and get evaluated.

Back from a recent trip to Mangalore highway and Sravanabelagola, FE was around 12.

I just found that the same car is advertised in different portals at a higher price tag. Important thing is when I inspected the car it showed 47k on the odo and the price was again increased. Upon inquiring the dealer said "that car is sold off and this is a fresh piece saar."

Went to Kaiwara yesterday. Good place for a day trip, there is also a 630 steps climb if you are interested.

A monkey supposedly stepped on/sat on the right ORVM and it is broken :(

The roads were pretty bad at places buyt the car took it well at reasonable speed. Mileage was around 14 kmpl.

You could buy it outside TASC, it will cost you 1200 Rs for the complete assembly. Pics are due for a long time.:)

Getting the mirror replaced outside. Electrically adjustable mirror for Rs. 1200.

Please provide the contact and address of outside source 1200 vs 5000 difference is huge will be helpful to many people.

Mirror replaced for 1200.

It is available at J C Road, but I picked it up from a Rajendra Automobiles near Hennur cross. Not sure of the number. Most, if not all, safari parts are available there.

Hella horns packed up, installed roots windstone. Not happy. Should have installed safari original horns instead. Total damage Rs. 680, including installation.

The HP pump near my place is now Company owned. Although I prefer IOC, will be using this for now. HP diesel used to give me 10kmp with 100% AC in city, will check if there is any change in mileage.

The right front headlight assembly needs replacement. Parts available at TASS for 2500, outside little bit cheaper.

The power windows do not work except for the driver side windows. Not an issue for me as usually I drive with 100% AC for all traffic conditions.

Was the ORVM that you purchased of Tata make or other? Both of the ORVM of my DICOR are gone, they are electrically adjustable.

Not sure about the brand, but it costs around 1200, for electrically adjustable.

Electric outer rear view mirrors for 1200 are a steal. Makes me want to buy a couple and store at home just in case

Hi,

as you have been using a safari for a long time thought you might be able to help.

One of my friends is looking to a buy a pre owned safari , not the recent models because of the price but he is looking for a 2002--2005 model..

The car would be used for weekend drives (50-100) and monthly a 400 highway drive and 200 km (Village roads).

which model he can look for in those years and what would be the expected price. Would it be advisable for him to go for a safari. How are the maintenance costs and what would be mileage (City and Highway).

Sorry for the list of questions.

Thanks
