Awesome findings Akki! 5*s for you and this thread !

My doubt is that why would the company get this loaded into a car and then turn it off?? Is it because they can use the same components for multiple models as a cost cutting effort? And then activate the features depending on the model to price it for a premium?

Will all the manufacturers be doing the same way? I was thinking how to get the low fuel warning lamp work on my Swift VDi ! I can see the logo on the console but it doesnt work - it works on the ZXi though. Will the service guys be ready to activate this for any brands? guess they may not considering that doing this might drive away a customer from booking a higher variant for the same features!

PS: Akki -- I can give you an idea -- start off a garage where you do this kinda work and sure you will get house full business in a short time.:D

Thanks! Company keeps most h/w same for cost-saving measures. They differentiate the variants by means of s/w programming. That's the case with the Laura atleast.

Any of these possible with the Octavia RS??

I am yet to try on my Octy. Will update once i've done that.

I am yet to try on my Octy. Will update once i've done that. Warranty will mostly be void, so don't mess up anything.

The white license plate LED's look super-cool. BTW, where in mumbai did you get these from and whats the cost? I've tried many different white LED's for the license plate but none have this kinda intensity and look. The bimmers license plate lights look pale in comparison:D

cheers

Got the LEDs off fleabay. They look awesome in flesh. About 1800-1900 for a pair incl. delivery from UK. Installation is 1 min DIY if you've got the right tools.

Hi Akki,

Was really surprised on the mods you have done to your Laura. I need some info from you in this regard. Would like to know what is the software tool and the connector you are using to connect to your laptop? Do you also have a application installed in your laptop to read the codes from the tool?

The reason is I have a W124 and need to try my hands in that.

Thanks

I used Ross-Tech Hex+CAN USB interface. The software is VCDS from Ross-Tech. IIRC this is only compatible with VW family of cars. I don't think i can use this with my W211 or you with your W124.

Thanks for the note. I asked few people in Chennai and they are not very sure of the connector / software. But from another Mercedes forum I read that W124s are OBD1 compliant.

UPDATE:

Got my second service (long due) done finally. Apart from the routine service, fixed some faulty tail lamp bulbs. The car has turned over a new leaf. It is so smooth now and acceleration is much better. The steering feels so much better after the wheel alignment. A very good job by the guys at AutoBahn Skoda.
I had taken both Octavia & Laura together for servicing and hence, could not pay detailed attention to one particular car, but the service center guys handled it well. Though i kept a personal eye over all the work, they did seem sincere to their work.

hi bro was it a free servicing and how much did they charge for it ? i love the laura and i want to get one but just afraid of the service and spare part cost !

In the free service only labor is free, the oil, filter & other things the consumer has to pay, the services charges are around 7k for the laura.

cheers..

@Berj79: Does 7k include wheel balancing/alignment/rotation? I got mine serviced (2nd service as well) lat week and got a bill of 7k, but without wheel balancing/alignment/rotation.
Planning to get this done outside.

@vasanthjn: If you want OBDII cable (2004 and beyond models of VW-Audi-Skoda group). In India I have come across 2 folks who sell this cable.
One is genuine Ross-Tech (Pete's Automotive Products Pvt Limited).
Other is supposed to work with Ross-Tech, but not original Ross-Tech (Home*-*iRide Technologies), they had quoted me 15k in Jul, but decided against it, since it is not genuine and not sure how well it works with Ross-Tech.

Other option to source China made OBD-II cables is from ebay, it costs roughly 20-30$ including shipment, but then there is a very high risk of getting incorrect cables. I did get one, but then I had to understand the PCB in that box and realized this cable is for Ford, though have not tried on any Ford myself (just based on the PCB diagram and connector connections)...

All,
Here is the latest quote. I'm thinking of buying it, though not sure as of yet!

Hmm. I was thinking of buying one from iRide but was not sure as to how compatible was it with Ross-Tech software VCDS. Hence, decided against it.

The guy had come down to 9k for me but i couldn't be sure if it was fully compatible with VCDS and did not want to risk a Skoda ECU!

Mine included wheel alignment. I didn't get the balancing done as it had got pretty late that evening.

The Octavia has got auto lock and auto unlock now. Works like a charm. This thing is awesome!

You rock dude. Maybe once I get my Vento (inshallah), you can enable the auto-lock on that as well clap:

Kensington Bluetooth Car Handsfree kit

This is the car kit i got for my Laura. The small unit connects to car power port. The output wire from this unit goes to the AUX IN port in the central armrest box. So my phone connects to the unit via bluetooth which connects to the HU via AUX IN.
The steering remote matches with the Laura's steering (with regards to visual appearance). The thing works flawlessly.
So when i'm driving, all i do is switch to AUX on the HU, press a button on the remote, say the contact name i wish to call and voila! the call is immediately connected.
Mic is on the small unit, whereas sound is from car speakers itself. The entire process of calling a contact is voice controlled. Answering a call or switching to a call waiting, is very smooth and easy. Honestly, this thing has made talking on the phone whilst driving, pretty easy. Highly recommended if you drive yourself and also use your phone whilst driving.

Hey,

Really liked the stuff you have altered in your car. I also came across another tbhpian's figo who has added features like DTE, Live mileage etc using something similar. I feel the dealers should offer these to the customers at an extra cost so people who are not on teambhp :uncontrol can get such features in their cars :)

This is a nice little gadget you have there. I wanted to know how it exactly works?

What happens when you are listening to a CD or FM and get an incoming call? Do you first need to switch to AUX and then communicate or it happens automatically? I tried to look for this info but couldn't get much on it so thought of clarifying with you directly.

Thanks in advance.
