Re: My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991

This is probably the epitome of Mercedes-ness and you have done absolute justice to it without going a bit overboard.

How do you source the spares? Direct from a Mercedes Dealer (which would be quite costly) or there are more reasonable quality options.

Re: My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991

all the parts are available from the dealers at the present so sourcing is not a problem. The dealer can be expensive for some parts but not all of them.
the quality of new parts is not the same as the ones originally fitted to the car in 1991.
as you can see from the pictures. the thermostat on the top is the one originally fitted to the car and the one at the bottom is the new one I got from the dealer a few days back. The new one is a lot lighter in weight and the finish is not there.
Had the A/C serviced before it leaves the UK for a warmer/hot climate.

The next episode begins. After two months in the UK it's time to leave the shores once again but this time the old girl want to leave too as her journey here is done and she wants to see other places too.
A final wash and then too the port. And who else is there at the port . A DMC. My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991-imageuploadedbyteambhp1428402633.711766.jpgMy R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991-imageuploadedbyteambhp1428402673.493126.jpgMy R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991-imageuploadedbyteambhp1428402707.176687.jpg

Sem80-88 - Now we know the true car lover in you. Congrats man.

Wishing her a safe and prestigious ride in India.

Would you mind posting the details on the shipment formalities, costs etc. Could be useful for many in this forum who are onsite and fallen love with their rides

My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991

First Day of driving in India and the old girl does not seem to like it . Sulking in a corner . Waiting for the shops to open so can get the battery charged up and be on the way to Delhi.Attachment 1381454

Congrats on getting her to India!

Just curious - what is the current odo reading? The instrument cluster shot from Feb 2011 shows 119886 miles.

Re: My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991

Hi. First post on your thread. Congratulations for successfully bringing the car over to India. Looks beautiful. Just a slight concern, jump starting can jigger the OVP relay. I suggest you avoid doing that as far as possible.
Hope to see many more pictures of the vehicle!

Re: My R129 Mercedes 500SL 1991

Hi buddy

Sorry to hear that the car has broken down yet again

Honestly I've always been in love with the R129s and so wish I could get my hands on something as decent

all the best with the repairs, I've heard they can be quiet nasty at times
